General Description of the Job Class
The Patient Transport Equipment Technician plays a crucial role in enhancing patient safety and optimizing patient flow within the DUHS Medical campus. Collaborating with general patient transport duties, this position is responsible for various tasks related to the management of patient care equipment and supplies used throughout the facility by patient transport services, specifically internal to DUH, not outside the facility.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
- Oversee the receipt, delivery, and pick-up of patient transport equipment and supplies throughout the facility.
- Ensure the availability of necessary equipment for customer and/or patient transport services.
- Perform thorough cleaning and sterilization of patient transport equipment, adhering to established protocols.
- Maintain a clean and organized storage area for equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on patient care equipment.
- Identify and address equipment malfunctions promptly to minimize downtime.
- Deliver patient transport equipment to designated locations as requested.
- Retrieve equipment from various departments, ensuring timely pick-up and removal.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment deliveries, pick-ups, and repairs.
- Document cleaning and sterilization activities for compliance and quality control.
- Collaborate with patient transport staff and service partners to understand equipment needs for different patient scenarios.
- Communicate effectively with relevant departments to streamline equipment-related processes.
- Provide training to patient transport staff on proper equipment usage and handling.
- Offer support and assistance to transport staff in addressing equipment-related issues.
- Participate in quality and safety improvement initiatives related to patient transport equipment and processes.
- Identify opportunities for enhancing efficiency and safety in equipment management.
- Partners with units in order not to store PTS wheelchairs and discharge carts on the unit for use, as this delays throughput when equipment is not readily available to the transporter.
- Assists in maintenance of department Rover devices, ensuring they have the proper IOS and Epic updates.
- Ensures that Rover devices are functional, ready for services and reports any repair or replacement needs.
- Ensures the Rover devices are clean, charged, and programmed for the oncoming shift
- In partnership with team leads to function in the role of phone distributor.
- Provides orientation education for wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, cribs, etc.
- Provides orientation and education for the operation of the Rover device.
- Participates in in-service education sessions and related training to increase personal knowledge of specific work-related issues and personal development.
- Provides "just in time" education when equipment knowledge gaps are identified.
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training is preferred.
Experience:
- One (1) year of patient transport experience within DUHS preferred.
- Organized and motivated by a fast-paced environment.
- Able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in MS Office, specifically Word and Excel.
- Proficient in reviewing and assessing needs quickly.
- Comfortable with continuous change and self-initiating.
- Able to complete documentation promptly and efficiently.
- Independent critical thinking and judgment are required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to assimilate information and communicate with various groups.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of people (e.g., race, ethnicity, age, class, and sexual preference).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in working with multidisciplinary teams is preferred.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
Must be able to read, write, comprehend, and communicate the English language.
High school diploma or GED required.
Basic computer knowledge of Windows operating environment.
Experience
No previous experience is required for this position, but up to six months experience is desired.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
