The Duke Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) is seeking motivated graduate students for a full-time, 12-week summer internship focused on quantitative methods in HIV/AIDS research. This program provides hands-on research experience in leading HIV/AIDS laboratories and is funded by a five-year NIAID R25 grant. Interns will collaborate with expert researchers and contribute to impactful scientific projects.
Internship Details:
- 12-week internship (May 11 – July 31, 2026)
- Interns will be provided a stipend of $21 per hour (up to a maximum of 40 hours per week) for their participation (unless forbidden by NIH e.g. T32 recipients)
Duties
- Conduct quantitative analyses, including data analysis, visualization, machine learning, simulation, or statistical/mathematical modeling.
- Work within clinical, translational, or socio-behavioral research teams.
- Collaborate with both HIV/AIDS researchers and quantitative science mentors.
- Strengthen written and oral scientific communication skills.
- Attend in person meetings and seminars.
- Maintain scientific rigor and reproducibility.
- Submit an abstract to the CFAR Scientific Retreat.
Minimum Requirements:
- Interns must have a quantitative background (e.g. stats, math, CS, data science, engineering).
- Interns must be enrolled in a graduate program at the time of internship.
- All graduate student employees must work in North Carolina
- No student can work outside of the U. S. whether a U.S citizen, Green Card holder, visa holder or not.
