Job Summary
We are seeking an Associate Director of Advanced Practice for Duke Medical Oncology in Durham, NC. This Advanced Practice Provider will provide oversight and direction in establishing and maintaining a system for developing, reviewing, approving and disseminating standards of advanced practice; quality, education, practice, and clinical operations within the Duke Cancer Institute (DCI), making recommendations on policy regarding clinical practice for Medical Oncology Service Line. The position will be 40% clinical responsibility related to patient care and 60% administrative.
Primary hours will be Monday through Friday, day shift, with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Direct clinical and administrative programs; oversee development and implementation of plans, operations, assuring the quality of clinical practice standards and programs within the DCI related to advanced practice.
- Assure effective communication and coordination of initiatives among various councils of the DCI, PDC, the nursing infrastructure, and other hospital/system committees, and work groups.
- Establish departmental direction consistent with hospital, health system and DCI objectives.
- Develop/monitor programs to facilitate meeting goals of department, DCI, hospital, and health system.
- Collaborate with DCI and department/division leadership to determine need for advanced clinical practice positions, based on metrics, patient care needs, clinical coverage requirements, staffing plans, and projected areas of growth.
- Lead change regarding quality of care and operational enhancements including implementation and communication plans related thereto.
- Collaborate with managers and administrators in other departments as needed to ensure high quality, efficient clinical services.
- Partner with physicians, nursing, and other clinical operational departments to develop and communicate vision for care delivery models and facilitate implementation and ongoing refinement of such models across the continuum.
- Direct personnel functions related to areas of responsibility including, but not limited to hiring and performance management.
- Serve as role model and resource for professional colleagues. Participates in leadership activities such as committees, professional organizations, publishing, teaching, and research.
- Remain current with local trends and changes in advanced practice (nursing & physician practice) professional/practice in health environment. Ensure that department/staff meet TJC, NC Board of Nursing, NC Medical Board and other regulatory/licensure requirements.
Professional Development
- Professional Staff Development for Advanced Practice within the DCI
- Support APP professional growth and development with mentoring, coaching and educational opportunities.
- Advise, support and mentor APP team leads.
- Provide leadership for, hiring and onboarding of new hire APPs.
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
- Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
- Physician Assistants: Work requires completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
Certification
- BLS required.
License
- Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure & NP approval to practice in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required.
- Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. BLS required.
- Both: Current federal and state DEA with full prescriptive authority.
Experience
Minimum of 3-5 years experience in advanced clinical practice with proven leadership experience and evidence of operations / administrative responsibilities or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
