Job Title: SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) Manager I

Department: SHE / Regulatory Affairs

Reports To: Site Manager / Regional SHE Lead

Job Purpose

The SHE Manager I is responsible for leading site-level Safety, Health, and Environmental programs, ensuring compliance with national regulations and corporate standards. This role supports operational excellence, risk mitigation, and sustainability initiatives, while serving as the primary interface with regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Works with leaders to identify SHE priorities and programs for the site, including performance metrics, communication and change management.

  • Implements corporate, regional or divisional policies and programs.

  • Gives feedback with regards to changes needed for local compliance, communication or business relevance.

  • Ensures that required monitoring of operations or industrial exposures is in place. Provides technical leadership and functional guidance for health standards promulgated by regulatory authorities.

  • Coordinates ECAP and other audits of area managed; works with leadership to ensure findings are addressed.

  • Keeps informed on all existing and proposed changes in occupational health and safety regulations and ensures compliance in areas managed.

  • Provides local regulatory reporting if required.

  • Ensures that leading and lagging SHE metrics are collected.

  • Reviews metrics, trends and actions with Leadership team supported

Team Leadership

  • Leads a team of Safety, Health & Environment specialists

  • Manages the performance of the team

  • Develops the team's strategy and directs focus to key priorities

Environmental Risk Management

  • Lead environmental compliance efforts, including permitting, reporting, and audits.

  • Develop and implement site-specific SHE policies and programs.

  • Monitor environmental risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure sustainability.

Regulatory Interface & Site Leadership

  • Act as the primary contact for regulatory agencies and ensure timely submission of required documentation.

  • Coordinate environmental and safety projects, including infrastructure upgrades and compliance initiatives.

  • Manage data collection and reporting for permits and regulatory requirements.

Safety & Health Oversight

  • Support safety initiatives including incident investigations, ergonomic assessments, and SMS (Safety Management System) projects.

  • Promote a culture of safety through training, communication, and engagement activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Engineering, or related field.

  • 3–5 years of experience in SHE roles, preferably in manufacturing or chemical industry.

  • Familiarity with Romanian SHE regulations and EU directives.

  • Process safety knowledge is a plus

  • Certifications such as, ISO 14001/45001, or equivalent are a plus.

  • Postgraduate Course in Risk Assessor and Occupational Health and Safety Auditor
