Lead Platform Engineer
Ecolab
The IoT Network Engineer is a senior technical authority responsible for defining, delivering, and governing network connectivity architectures at customer locations in support of large‑scale IoT and edge solutions. This role operates at the intersection of architecture, delivery, and operations, requiring broad working knowledge across many technical domains—even when not acting as the deep subject‑matter expert in every area. In practice, the role navigates connectivity end‑to‑end, spanning field devices and OT networks, through DMZ and enterprise environments, and extending outward to the internet and cloud platforms, ensuring secure, resilient, and scalable connectivity across thousands of distributed customer environments. As a principal‑level engineer, you will set technical direction, influence standards, and lead the most complex network and carrier initiatives, serving as a trusted advisor to engineering leadership, security, service delivery, and external partners while enabling business‑critical IoT capabilities at the edge.
What you will do
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Own the end‑to‑end network connectivity architecture for customer‑site IoT and edge deployments, from design through lifecycle support
Define enterprise standards, reference architectures, and patterns for WAN, LAN, wireless,, and edge connectivity
- Act as the highest‑level technical escalation point for complex customer connectivity and IoT network challenges
- Drive architectural decisions related to routing, switching, security, IP management, and carrier integrations
Customer & IoT Connectivity Delivery
- Lead the design and delivery of secure, highly available connectivity at customer locations, including remote and globally distributed sites
- Ensure customer connectivity solutions meet performance, availability, and security requirements for IoT workloads
- Provide architectural oversight for firewall rule changes and network security integrations in alignment with security governance
Operational Excellence & Governance
- Provide 3rd/4th‑level troubleshooting leadership, guiding resolution of critical incidents and systemic issues
- Establish and refine operational procedures, runbooks, and standards for global network and IoT operations
- Partner with Service Delivery and Engineering to transition new and emerging technologies into day‑two operations at scale
- Ensure adherence to and continuous improvement of ITIL‑aligned processes, including change, incident, problem, and release management
Mentorship & Influence
- Mentor senior and mid‑level engineers, raising the technical bar across network and IoT operations
- Influence cross‑functional teams without direct authority, serving as a technical thought leader
- Contribute to long‑term roadmap planning for IoT connectivity, edge networking, and carrier strategy
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, MIS, or related field or equivalent years of working experience
- 8 years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting large‑scale enterprise and customer‑site network infrastructures
- Proven experience acting as a technical authority or architect for distributed network environments
- Deep expertise in TCP/IP networking, routing, switching, VLANs, QoS, and IP addressing
- Strong experience with firewalls, IP address management, and network security controls in regulated or large‑scale environments
- Demonstrated ability to lead resolution of complex, multi‑vendor, multi‑carrier network issues
- Broad working knowledge of end‑to‑end networked systems across field devices, OT networks, DMZ, enterprise environments, and cloud‑connected architectures, with the ability to navigate and integrate across layers even when not acting as the deep subject‑matter expert in every domain
- Foundational understanding of data fundamentals, including basic familiarity with SQL and how data is accessed, queried, and consumed within IoT and edge solutions
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence senior technical and business stakeholders
- Willingness to travel to customers or operational sites as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Significant experience supporting IoT, edge computing, or operational technology (OT) connectivity
- Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware supporting network and edge services
- Industry certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent
- Experience or practical exposure to Industrial Control Systems (ICS), SCADA environments, and operational technology (OT) connectivity within customer or industrial settings
- Familiarity with integrating OT and industrial networks into enterprise and cloud‑based platforms, including security zoning and segmentation considerations
