Based in our Aiken, South Carolina location, this position is responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining numerous EHS programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees and environmental compliance. The successful candidate will be a self-starting leader who enjoys the challenges of daily involvement with all departments.

AS THE EH&S COORDINATOR YOU WILL:

  • Work with the onsite EH&S Manager, Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) and plant leadership to ensure the facility is in compliance with federal, state and local laws, regulations, rules and codes. Utilize Emerson’s safety systems (Velocity EHS, ENHESA) and follow the company’s policies and best practices. Complete OSHA recording as needed.
  • Help constantly improve upon the site’s EHS culture by improving/evolving and managing any aspects of the EHS program.
  • Develop and lead EHS training for new and existing employees. Sharp presentation skills are required to ensure clear, concise messages are communicated in an engaging manner.
  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace, conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices. Provide mentoring and technical expertise for all compliance regulations.
  • Lead and coordinate all safety committee activities.
  • Help develop controls for identifying hazards, coordinate the implementation of controls from result of hazard analysis. Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control systems and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate work place accidents and injuries.
  • Communicate safety messages in toolbox meetings and conduct required safety training as needed.
  • Evaluate new equipment or products being brought in for manufacturing for safety requirements.
  • Conduct annual audits of facility.
  • Responsible for creating and implementing all environmental compliance plans. Drive to a zero-discharge culture by training employees to eliminate potential for waste spills and by crafting response measures to address any spills.
  • Maintain all permits, licensing and associated documentation required by regulatory agencies or the company.
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies or company resources in order to stay current with regulatory changes and ensure compliance.
  • Submit all reports as the need arises by regulatory agencies or the company.
  • Manage and maintain all EHS recordkeeping and reporting requirements. Compile, analyze, interpret, investigate and report any incidents/near misses/hazards.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the onsite EHS Manager and Global EHS Director.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Engineering, Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Safety or related field
  • In lieu of Bachelor’s Degree, a minimum of 4 years of EHS experience is required.
  • Minimum 1+ years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with all OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Must possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills and be able to influence others when planning and facilitating improvement projects. Communication, conflict-management and negotiation skills are critical.
  • Must exhibit a high level of flexibility and aptitude to multi-task in a high-pressure environment.
  • Must have excellent communication, presentation and training skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities through strong problem-solving skills.
  • Possess interpersonal skills and demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite.
