In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

Supplier & Process Optimization

  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop cost-effective and manufacturable solutions for mechanical parts, eg. machined, cast, sheet metal, plastic components, etc....

  • Conduct supplier process capability assessments and technical reviews

  • Identify and develop new suppliers to support design innovation and cost targets.

  • Support supplier process improvements in yield, efficiency, and capacity.

    Design-to-Cost & Manufacturability

  • Work with engineering to ensure part designs align with supplier manufacturing capability and cost efficiencies.

  • Support should-cost analysis and cost breakdown for mechanical parts.

  • Lead the DFM/DFX with supplier and feedback to Engineering for improved manufacturability and cost efficiency.

    NPD/NPI Support

  • Participate in prototype, pilot, and production build readiness review.

  • Support supplier PFMEA, process control, and capability validation activities.

  • Troubleshoot supplier technical or process issues during new product builds.

  • Ensure supplier manufacturing readiness for new launches through process validation and line audits.

    Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Commodity Manager to integrate technical insights into sourcing decisions.

  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain Analyst (NPI/NPD) on cost tracking, schedule monitoring, and readiness reporting.

  • Communicate supplier feedback and manufacturability insights to design teams to guide future design improvement.

  • Collaborate with Commodity Managers to align suppliers with long-term business and cost strategies.

    Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and drive continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives with suppliers.

  • Identify and standardize best practices across mechanical commodity suppliers.

  • Perform in-depth cost breakdown analysis and identify cost-saving opportunities.

  • Stay current with manufacturing technologies and market cost trends for mechanical components.

For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in mechanical manufacturing, process, or supplier engineering roles.

  • Strong knowledge of machining, casting, injection molding, stamping, or assembly processes.

  • Experience in DFM/DFX, PFMEA, GD&T, and process validation.

  • Proficiency in cost analysis, should-cost modeling, and design-to-cost principles.

  • Familiar with process improvement methodologies.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.

The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with suppliers, Supply Chain Analyst, Commodity Manager and Engineering to develop and optimize the best cost solution for mechanical part designs. This role drives design-to-cost (DTC) and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) initiatives in NPD/NPI projects, searching for new suppliers, evaluating their capabilities, and ensure the supplier processes are technically capable, scalable, and cost-competitive, and the parts meet the required specifications and quality standards. The Mechanical Engineer should have the ability to understand the current state of the art in multiple commodity types to best guide supplier selection. Background or knowledge of Supply Chain is a plus.
