In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

Strategic Compliance Leadership

  • Partner with the Senior Manager / Director to develop and advance compliance strategies supporting India business objectives.
  • Lead country-level and global interface compliance initiatives and projects.
  • Contribute to compliance roadmap development and long-term strategic planning.

Compliance Programs & Project Leadership: Lead and implement compliance programs across the following areas:

  • India Compliance Council governance and cross-functional coordination.
  • Export incentive and duty benefit programs, including RoDTEP, Duty Drawback, Bonded Operations (MOOWR/EOU/SEZ), Advance Authorization, and EPCG.
  • Import and export classification and licensing, including India HS classification and SCOMET.
  • Customs valuation and Special Valuation Branch (SVB) compliance.
  • Export control compliance, including SCOMET, U.S. EAR/ITAR exposure, and EU Dual-Use regulations.
  • Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) registrations and reporting (WEEE, Batteries, Plastics).
  • Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and product regulatory compliance.
  • India Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) / Data Privacy compliance.
  • Temporary import and export programs.
  • Preferential and non-preferential country of origin determination.

Monitoring, Reporting & Controls

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret compliance data and KPIs to assess program effectiveness.
  • Present compliance status, risks, and remediation plans to senior management.
  • Ensure compliance systems and processes meet Emerson’s internal control and audit requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Establish and execute effective communication strategies with internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with India businesses and global functional teams.
  • Provide practical compliance guidance to support business operations and growth.

Training & Culture

  • Lead the planning, administration, and delivery of compliance training programs.
  • Promote a strong compliance culture through awareness, engagement, and leadership influence.

People Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Coach and develop team members, as applicable.
  • Drive team engagement and collaboration.
  • Independently resolve complex compliance issues, including those without clear precedent.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement and risk mitigation opportunities.

Functional Compliance Disciplines Supported: This role provides strategic compliance support across the following disciplines:

  • International Trade Compliance.
  • Anti-Corruption and Compliance Checkpoints.
  • Information Governance and Data Privacy.
  • Environmental, Product, and Sustainability Compliance.
  • Antitrust and Competition Law Compliance.
  • Conflict Minerals Compliance.

Internal Relationships

  • Emerson Global Legal, Ethics & Compliance function – Align India compliance programs with global policies and standards.
  • India Business Leaders and Operations Teams – Provide regulatory guidance to execute legal business opportunities.
  • Supply Chain, Procurement, and Logistics – Ensure compliant sourcing, Import/Export execution, and supplier onboarding.
  • Finance and Tax – Support duty optimization, export incentives, valuation, and audit readiness.
  • Engineering, Quality, and Product Management – Export Control, BIS, PESO and Environmental, and sustainability compliance.
  • Information Technology and Data Privacy Teams – Implement and maintain data protection and information governance controls.
  • Global / Regional Regulatory Compliance and Functional Teams – Coordinate on cross-border, export control, and global compliance initiatives.

External Relationships

  • Law Firms and Legal Advisors – Obtain regulatory interpretations, advisory support, and representation as directed by the Director or Senior Manager.
  • Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders – Ensure compliant execution of Import/Export transactions and documentation.
  • Industry Associations (USISPF, AMCHEM, FICCI etc.) and Chambers of Commerce (Engineering Export Promotion Council, State Chamber of Commerce etc.) – Monitor regulatory developments, participate in advocacy, and share best practices.
  • Government Authorities and Regulators (as appropriate) – Interface on licensing, audits, inquiries, and regulatory matters.

For This Role, You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, Business, Engineering, Finance, or a related discipline; or an associate degree in legal studies, Business, International Trade, or equivalent, with relevant professional experience.
  • 7–10 years of relevant work experience in Compliance, Legal, International Trade, or a related regulatory function.
  • Strong knowledge of Indian regulatory frameworks impacting trade, customs, and compliance.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional compliance initiatives within a matrix organization.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written English and Hindi communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior management and diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:

  • Paralegal certification, advanced degree, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Experience supporting multinational or U.S./EU-headquartered organizations.
  • Prior exposure to global export control regimes, including U.S. EAR/ITAR and EU Dual-Use regulations.
  • Familiarity with compliance systems, dashboards, and audit frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of JDE, Oracle, E2Open and TradeSphere Exporter.
  • Ability to travel 10%+ for success in the role

The Manager of Regulatory Compliance in India will provide strategic and operational compliance leadership across all Emerson India businesses and locations. The Manager, Regulatory Compliance – India will support all Regulatory Compliance disciplines throughout the region and be responsible for program development, oversight, implementation and execution as it relates to Regulatory Compliance requirements, directives and standards.
