Senior Resident Engineer (m/f/d)
Emerson
As a Senior Resident Engineer (m/f/d), you work directly on site at one of the most advanced e‑mobility test facilities in Europe. You support the development‑driven test operations in an environment where cutting‑edge battery, high‑voltage and power electronics technologies are validated and improved every day.
In this role, you act as the central technical contact for the test field. You analyze complex hardware and software issues, develop solutions for automated test sequences, and help enhance the robustness and usability of the test bench applications. Your programming skills, system understanding and problem‑solving mindset enable you to contribute directly to the performance, reliability and efficiency of the test environment.
Through close collaboration with the customer, the resident engineering team and internal development departments, you gain deep insights into the latest trends in e‑mobility and play an active role in improving our test systems — technically, operationally and in daily customer use. This position offers the opportunity to create real impact at the intersection of engineering and test operations, shaping the quality of tomorrow’s energy storage technologies.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for all test field‑related questions on site.
- Analyze and resolve complex hardware and software issues on test benches.
- Program and adapt automated test sequences, especially using PAtools.
- Integrate new features and components (software and hardware) into existing test bench environments.
- Develop solutions for special and non‑standard test scenarios.
- Continuously improve and optimize the test bench application.
- Work with test databases and lab management systems (e.g., SystemLink Enterprise) to support seamless test operations.
- Coordinate technical requirements and solutions directly with the customer.
- Provide user training for operating the test benches when needed.
- You build and deliver solutions that meet customer expectations.
- You provide timely and helpful information to individuals across the organization.
- You readily learn and adopt new technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, automation engineering, mechatronics, computer science or a comparable technical field.
- Several years of experience in technical test environments, ideally in battery or high‑voltage testing.
- Hands‑on programming experience with machine‑level control systems, particularly PAtools, as well as LabVIEW or MATLAB.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to independently solve technical problems.
- Effective communication skills when interacting with customers and internal engineering teams.
- Good command of English and German.
- Readiness to work on site at the customer’s test field and to travel occasionally within the test field network.
- Good understanding of measurement and control engineering and the basics of HV and battery systems (cell/module/pack).
- Experience working with lab or test field management systems (e.g., SystemLink Enterprise) or strong willingness to learn.
