Staff Engineering Manager
Emerson
The Staff Engineering Manager for Application Systems Management (ASMT) leads the team that keeps critical platforms running when the business needs them most. This role sits at the intersection of operational reliability, platform stewardship, and people leadership, ensuring systems are stable today while evolving for tomorrow. If you enjoy owning outcomes, leading through real‑world operational challenges, and strengthening how teams run production systems, this role offers both impact and scale.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
Operational delivery is the foundation of this role. You are accountable for the 24x7 reliability and supportability of ASMT‑owned platforms, including on‑call readiness, escalation paths, and consistent execution of incident, problem, and change management. During major incidents and production outages, you serve as an escalation point and coordinate response across ServiceNow, PagerDuty, and enterprise operations teams. Clear service boundaries, predictable operations, and disciplined follow‑through are critical to success.
Beyond day‑to‑day operations, this role drives technical platform management and modernization. You partner with technical leads and stakeholders to ensure platforms are stable, well‑monitored, secure, and cost‑conscious, while also addressing technical debt and improving operational efficiency. Reliability and availability remain the priority, but progress comes through continuous improvement of tooling, monitoring, and platform practices.
People leadership makes both of the above sustainable. You lead and develop a team of platform and DevOps engineers, setting clear expectations around ownership, accountability, and on‑call participation. Through performance management, coaching, and skills development, you build a team that operates confidently, collaborates effectively, and grows with the needs of the business.
Who You Are:
You are an engineering leader who values clarity, stability, and ownership, and you are comfortable being accountable for production outcomes. Operational responsibility is something you embrace, not avoid.
You communicate clearly and calmly—especially when systems are under pressure—and are trusted to make sound decisions during incidents. Teams look to you for direction, consistency, and follow‑through.
Pragmatic and improvement‑minded, you appreciate well‑run processes but know when to simplify, clarify, and remove friction so teams can focus on what matters most.
