Materials Engineer - Supplier Qualification

Essential Job Functions:
Provide engineering support in the evaluation and qualification of materials and components submitted by potential suppliers. The job function will require the employee to:
- Lead sample testing and qualification activities for new suppliers, ensuring materials meet performance, quality, and specification requirements.
- Coordinate and execute material testing (mechanical, physical, chemical, and application‑specific tests) in collaboration with internal labs and external resources.
- Analyze test data, prepare reports, and provide recommendations on supplier approval or required corrective actions.
- Partner with Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, and Global Operations to align test requirements and prioritization.
- Develop and document testing protocols, acceptance criteria, and supplier qualification procedures.
- Maintain and update internal specifications related to supplier material requirements.
- Interpret and apply relevant industry and regulatory standards to supplier qualification activities.
- Support diaphragm research and development activities.
Education / Experience Required (minimum you would take someone for this role)
Undergraduate degree in Material Science and Engineering, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering.
Other Engineering degrees will be considered with experience in material property testing.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Experience performing material testing, data analysis, or qualification work in a lab or engineering environment.
Ability to quickly learn and apply new testing methods and technologies.
Strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple qualification projects with competing timelines.
Self‑motivated and capable of working independently while collaborating across teams.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to summarize technical results for non‑technical audiences. The ability to communicate in English is required.
Ability to follow standard operating procedures to safely conduct tests; growth opportunity to develop and improve testing methodologies and qualification workflows.

Supervisory Requirements:
This is an individual contributor position with no initial responsibility for direct supervision of other full-time personnel.
Work Environment / Conditions / Physical Demands:
Combination professional office and lab environment.
Occasional off-hours work to coordinate projects with other world areas.
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
The Materials Engineer provides technical evaluation and testing support to qualify new suppliers and ensure material compliance for the business unit on a global scale. This role focuses on performing and coordinating the testing of materials to determine suitability for use in products and manufacturing processes. This role will evaluate non-metallics (polymers, adhesives, lubricants, fabrics, etc.).
