Quality Engineer

Emerson’s Test & Measurement business (NI) is seeking a Principal Quality Engineer to play a key role in maintaining and advancing our Quality Management System (QMS) while supporting a global, technology driven organization. This role partners closely with R&D, Operations, and other internal stakeholders, serves as a quality representative in customer interactions, and leads internal and external audit activities to ensure ongoing compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
The ideal candidate is an experienced quality professional with strong audit expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence and support cross functional teams in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Management System (QMS)
- Own, maintain, and continuously improve the Quality Management System in alignment with ISO 9001 and AS9100 requirements.
- Ensure effective implementation and adherence to quality policies, procedures, and processes across the organization.
- Lead QMS performance monitoring, metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Audit Program Management
- Plan, manage, and execute the internal audit program, including risk-based audit scheduling, auditor coordination, and reporting.
- Act as a primary quality representative during external audits (certification bodies, customers, and regulatory entities).
- Support and lead corrective and preventive action (CAPA) activities, ensuring timely and effective resolution of audit findings.
Cross Functional Stakeholder Support
- Serve as a quality partner to R&D and Operations, providing guidance on design controls, product realization, risk management, and process compliance.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure quality requirements are embedded throughout the product life cycle.
- Support change management activities to ensure compliance with applicable standards and customer requirements.
Customer & External Representation
- Interact directly with customers on quality related topics, including audits, quality concerns, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Represent NI and Emerson Test & Measurement professionally during customer visits and external audits.
- Support customer quality requirements, documentation reviews, and issue resolution as needed.
Training & Documentation
- Develop, maintain, and improve QMS documentation, including procedures, work instructions, and quality records.
- Create and deliver quality training to employees, auditors, and cross functional teams to promote quality awareness and compliance.
- Mentor and support internal auditors and quality team members.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field.
- Demonstrated experience managing quality systems and audit programs in a regulated or high technology environment.
- Proven ability to support and communicate with customers and external parties.
- Experience representing a company during external certification and customer audits.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence cross functional stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- ISO 9001 and AS9100 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor certification.
- Experience in test and measurement, electronics, aerospace, or advanced manufacturing environments.
- Hands on experience supporting R&D organizations and design control processes.
- Familiarity with risk-based thinking, continuous improvement methodologies, and data driven quality metrics.
- Ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a global organization.
