Emerson has an exciting opportunity for a Strategic Planner to join our organization in Shakopee, MN or Boulder, CO! The Strategic Planning Business Partner is an embedded business partner to the Business Group Leader, Business Unit Leader, and Measurement Solutions senior leadership — a trusted thought partner who proactively shapes strategy, accelerates decision quality, and helps leaders run a more effective management system. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, planning, and applied AI.
This is a ~2-year career chapter designed to accelerate the development of high-potential individuals.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
Strategic Partnership & Executive Support
  • Serve as a trusted, embedded business partner to the BG, President, BU Leaders, and MSOL senior leaders — actively engaged in their management system.
  • Proactively identify strategic risks, opportunities, and second- or third-order implications — bringing independent perspective and judgment, not just synthesizing data.
  • Lead preparation and facilitation for board meetings, growth conferences, site reviews, leadership events, and other high-stakes strategic touchpoints.
  • Support development and execution of strategic initiatives — from ideation and framing through to execution and follow-through.
  • Serve as the strategic planning function’s connection between the BUs, World Areas, and MSOL — leveraging the VP, Strategy & Pricing Analytics to achieve goals while operating as an effective daily partner to the assigned leaders.

Strategy, Planning & Decision Support

  • Run analyses, including scenario planning, providing executive-ready interpretation and framing to support 3–6% through-the-cycle growth.
  • Lead market research and analytical deep dives into growth areas, market opportunities, competitive dynamics, and strategic risks.
  • Support analysis, planning, and execution of growth workshops to drive strategic changes and subsequent follow-through.
  • Combine leadership insights and business judgment with AI-supported analyses to surface non-obvious implications and actionable recommendations.

AI-Enabled Planning & Process Design

  • Design and maintain AI-enabled workflows for strategy reviews, board preparation, leadership events, and recurring planning processes — creating capacity for strategic discussion in place of manual content assembly.
  • Build and steward models and prompts for growth forecasting, market research, competitive scanning, and risk identification, in partnership with the MSOL AI Capability Center.
  • Establish quality standards and evaluation frameworks to ensure AI-generated outputs meet or exceed leadership standards for accuracy, rigor, and insight.
  • Coach peers and stakeholders on effective and responsible use of AI in strategic work; maintain documentation of best practices and lessons learned.
  • Measure and communicate productivity and quality improvements resulting from AI-enabled workflows.

Who You Are:
A trusted thought partner to senior leaders — your instinct is to shape strategy, not just report on it. Comfortable operating in ambiguity and driving new approaches in an environment that is still figuring out how AI fits in. Strong business judgment with the ability to synthesize across diverse inputs and make clear recommendations under uncertainty. Curious and pragmatic about applying AI to real business problems — without letting tools become the goal. Relationship-oriented: you build credibility quickly with senior leaders and earn the right to be in the room.
For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or a related technical field
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience with a blend of technical and business roles
  • High-potential candidates without an MBA may be considered
  • Regional or global mobility is required
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
  • MBA completed or in progress
