Senior Technical Development Lead (AI-Native Transformation)
Emerson
Software Engineering, IT, Data Science
Eden Prairie, MN, USA
USD 130k-190k / year
We are seeking a hands-on Technical Development Lead to spearhead the evolution of our engineering team from a traditional cloud-native shop to a fully AI-driven development powerhouse. This is an onsite work opportunity based at our Eden Prairie, MN location
This is a hands-on technical role. You will spend your time building production-grade solutions in Azure/Node.js stack and managing deployments via AKS, while simultaneously architecting the AI agents, RAG systems, and automated workflows that will redefine our SDLC.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
- Hands-on Cloud Engineering: Lead development of scalable applications in Node.js, Express/NestJS, React, and Cosmos DB. Own containerization (Docker) and orchestration (AKS).
- AI SDLC Transformation: Drive spec-driven Agile delivery with AI-assisted workflows. Architect MCP integrations with Azure OpenAI; build internal agents and RAG pipelines (LangChain) to automate boilerplate, documentation, PR reviews, and GitHub Copilot assistance.
- AI Bot Delivery: Deploy AI chatbots via Copilot Studio and custom LLM frameworks; expose and secure them through Azure API Management (APIM).
- Identity & Access Management: Architect auth flows (Auth0, Okta) for internal and external users, ensuring secure access to AI-driven features and tools.
- AI-Driven Testing: Implement self-healing E2E test suites in Playwright with AI-powered auto-updating of test scripts in CI/CD.
- Observability & Automation: Build observability workflows (Dynatrace + Azure OpenAI) for automated alerting, anomaly detection, and AI-driven root-cause analysis that generates remediation PRs in GitHub.
- Code Quality & Security: Champion code coverage, vulnerability, and risk metrics. Enforce Human-in-the-Loop governance, PII masking for LLM prompts, and secure AI agent operation via Azure Managed Identities.
- CI/CD Pipeline Excellence: Own CI/CD across all repos — author reusable pipeline templates and enforce quality gates to uphold engineering standards.
- Azure Cost Governance: Monitor and optimize cloud spend (OpenAI tokens, AKS). Implement tagging, APIM rate-limiting, and auto-scaling to keep the AI transformation cost-effective.
- Mentorship: Coach junior and mid-level developers in a culture of continuous learning.
- Team Leadership: Manage a team of full-stack engineers — daily operations, performance reviews, career development — across software engineering and QA functions.
Who You Are:
You experiment with a wide range of existing technologies while applying new and emerging options that can improve organizational outcomes. You formulate a clear strategy and map bold steps that will accelerate the organization towards its goals. You persist in the face of challenges and setbacks. You leverage each team member's unique background to achieve team goals.
For This Role, You Will Need:
- MS or BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Core Stack Expertise: 10+ years of professional hands-on experience with 4+ years in technical leadership.
- Expert level proficiency in Node.js (TypeScript), NestJS, and React. Experience in Azure Cosmos DB schema design.
- Containerization & Orchestration: Deep hands-on experience with Docker and managing production workloads in Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
- API & Integration: Expertise in designing RESTful APIs, with Proficiency in Azure API Management (APIM) for lifecycle management, security, and exposing AI services to external consumers.
- AI Engineering: Experience building multi-Agent workflows, RAG pipelines, and vector-based retrieval.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States - sponsorship will not be provided for this role.
Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:
- Agile Leadership: Experience leading development teams in high velocity Agile environments.
- Modern DevOps & Testing: Mastery of GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps and Playwright for automated, AI-augmented testing.
- Conversational AI: Proven track record of delivering production-ready chatbots (Copilot Studio or custom LLM apps).
- Excellent communication skills; comfortable translating technical complexity for non-technical stakeholders
