Position Summary:
The Chief Digital Hardware Engineer is the technical leader for digital hardware engineering, providing both strategic direction and hands‑on expertise across board‑level digital design, FPGA/RTL development, and platform architecture. This highly visible role influences product execution, design quality, and long‑term capability building across the organization. You will shape scalable, high‑performance, and reliable digital architectures aligned with our Test & Measurement technology roadmap, while partnering closely with engineering, product, and executive stakeholders.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
Provide technical leadership for digital hardware architecture, board‑level design, and FPGA/RTL implementation.
Define, evolve, and govern digital platform architectures used across designated product lines.
Lead high‑speed digital board design, including schematic capture, PCB stack‑up definition, signal and power integrity, and EMI/EMC mitigation.
Establish and promote design standards for high‑speed interfaces, clocking strategies, timing closure, and clock‑domain crossing methodologies.
Guide FPGA and RTL architecture decisions using VHDL and/or SystemVerilog, including verification strategy and design quality practices.
Lead architectural trade‑off decisions across FPGA, CPU, ASIC, and commercial silicon solutions.
Act as a technical escalation point for complex digital hardware and system‑level challenges.
Advise R&D and senior leadership on digital technology strategy, roadmap risks, and long‑term investment opportunities.
Mentor and develop senior technical talent to strengthen organizational capability and succession.
Champion engineering excellence, innovation, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing across the digital engineering community.
Who You Are:
You consistently apply deep technical expertise to solve complex challenges and make sound, timely decisions. You build strong partnerships across teams and influence outcomes through clear communication and collaboration. You take a long‑term view, balancing immediate delivery with sustainable architecture and capability development, while actively developing others and fostering a culture of learning and engineering rigor.
For This Role, You Will Need:
A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (advanced degrees are welcomed).
Extensive experience in digital hardware engineering, with demonstrated technical leadership and system‑level ownership.
Strong hands‑on expertise in board‑level digital design, simulation, validation, and debug.
Experience designing FPGA architectures and developing RTL using VHDL and/or SystemVerilog.
Solid understanding of high‑speed digital interfaces such as DDR, PCIe, and Ethernet.
Practical experience with timing analysis, clocking architectures, clock‑domain crossing, and verification methodologies.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to debug complex hardware and system‑level issues using advanced lab instrumentation.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to influence both technical and executive stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
Experience working across regions, cultures, and functions to deliver complex engineering outcomes.
A track record of defining digital hardware platforms leveraged across multiple product families.
Exposure to ASIC or custom silicon integration, including make‑or‑buy decision processes.
Experience in Test & Measurement, embedded systems, or high‑reliability industrial products.
Demonstrated success mentoring senior engineers and building sustainable technical leadership pipelines.
Comfort operating at both deep technical detail and executive strategic levels.
