The opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing team within EY. Part of the GCO Enablement within GDS team in India, the counsel will work with legal/Global General Counsel’s Office (GCO) attorneys, and support EY’s business on vendor and client contracts. You will provide legal support to the business and become a trusted adviser of stakeholders (often at senior leadership level). You will be expected to assess and understand how risks can be best managed and mitigated. You will also be managing a team of legal professionals and would be expected to coach and guide the team members to enable them to efficiently deliver on their goals.
Key Responsibilities will include the following:
- Leading multiple teams supporting different service lines and geographies handing commercial contracts (both client and vendor).
- Build an excellent working relationship based on trust with the clients and other stakeholders.
- Supporting on drafting, reviewing, negotiation, finalization and advisory on high-value, complex or critical client or vendor agreements, teaming agreements, MSAs, framework agreements, software license agreements, SaaS subscription agreements.
- Support in framing policies, process, and SOPs for efficient and seamless service delivery.
- Increase GDS usage and contribution towards delivery of functional priorities and enabling seamless employee and customer experiences
- Strengthen the go-to market program to enable wins for the GDS to increase the scope and reach of the services delivered.
- Build talent and capabilities and create niche roles in alignment with global priorities
- Mentoring, training, and motivating team members and ensuring retention.
- Responsible for the hiring process by identifying and evaluating the right person to fill the role. Determine hiring and training needs for the team.
- Accelerate adoption of Digital, Analytics and AI capabilities across functional processes and creating the culture of innovation, transformation, and adaptation of technology to enhance the service delivery.
- Establish and define End-to-End delivery enablers that prioritize optimized delivery from the right team/location and service provider that minimizes hand-offs and allows maximum time zone coverage
- Working with internal stakeholders to develop strategies to address issues identified.
- Communicating progress, challenges, risks and benefits to appropriate management levels and affected user groups and other members of the GCO in the affected jurisdictions.
- Understanding practice and business goals and how they impact the types of products and services procured.
- Managing team’s workflow and propose process improvements, automations and efficiencies.
- Maintaining an understanding of the impact of changes in EY policies, organizational structure, and procedures.

- Excellent negotiations skills - It would also be preferable if the candidates had at least some experience negotiating with the “big box” vendors (IBM, MSFT, SAP, etc);

Team/People Management:
- Lead a team of legal counsels
- Drive implementation of initiatives within team to enhance team competency continuously
- Monitor utilization and skills development to meet the needs of internal stakeholders;
- Helping team members with their queries and identify training gaps and coach team members
- Work Assignment and allocation
- Counsel and mentor team members; conduct one on one meetings, plan leave and attendance
- Devising strategies and managing the hiring pipeline.
Internal Client Management:
- Leads process improvement and automation ideas to drive efficiencies
- Proactively understands client needs for exceptional client services and addresses Client feedback
- Proactively addresses negative feedback to ensure escalations are to the minimum and responded appropriately
- Enhance team optimization by contributing to the Labour economics/IDCs or other organisational priorities
- Adoption of methodologies for achieving delivery excellence with structured KPIs and governance

Experience and qualifications
- LL.B/Law Graduate with 14+ years of relevant post-qualification experience (at least last 5 years in a leadership and people management role).
- Hands on experience in negotiating and finalising technology contracts.
- Excellent knowledge of privacy and data protection (GDPR/CCPA)
- Well-developed analytical, interpersonal, and communication (both verbal and written) skills in English.
