Manager – Washington Council EY (WCEY) – Tax Policy

Washington Council EY (WCEY) is a group within Ernst & Young LLP that combines the power of a leading professional services organization with the on-the-ground knowledge, personal relationships, and attention to detail of a boutique Washington lobbying firm. WCEY has a bipartisan, bicameral team with extensive legislative and regulatory experience that covers the bases to help address all our clients' tax and health care policy needs.

WCEY's tax practice develops and implements strategies to address legislative and regulatory issues. We represent clients before Congress and the executive branch on significant aspects of federal tax and health care policy, convene cross-industry coalitions, and lead issue- and legislation-specific campaigns. Our work encompasses policy issues across all business sectors.

The Opportunity

WCEY has a bipartisan, bicameral team with extensive legislative and regulatory experience that covers the bases to help address all our clients' tax and health care policy needs.

WCEY's tax practice develops and implements strategies to address legislative and regulatory issues. We represent clients before Congress and the executive branch on significant aspects of federal tax and health care policy, convene cross-industry coalitions, and lead issue- and legislation-specific campaigns. Our work encompasses policy issues across all business sectors.

Key responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of complex tax policy issues, the federal legislative and regulatory process, and the impact of tax legislation and regulation on various tax stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate the analytical skills necessary to develop legislative content and collateral for clients as well as materials to apprise the firm about important policy developments. A successful candidate will know how to sort out relevant information from noise, communicate complex information in a digestible and concise manner, and tailor materials to various audiences.
  • Prepare internal memoranda, written products for distribution to clients, PowerPoint presentations, and other documents for use in conjunction with WCEY's thought leadership and market-facing activities.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through a positive and cooperative attitude and by maintaining the confidential and proprietary nature of client relationships and related work products.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Contribute to the overall success of the team by developing a thorough understanding of EY policies and tools to enhance service delivery; keep team members informed of work status; proactively seek opportunities to provide services; challenge traditional procedures used in the past; and attempt to find effective approaches.
  • Ability to develop or contribute to public relations materials such as social media content, press releases or graphics is appreciated but not required. This position offers excellent opportunities for teaming, leadership, and career advancement.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • A Bachelor's degree
  • Approximately 3-6 years of professional research, writing, and analysis work focused on legislative and/or regulatory affairs or policy, including developing and producing materials on tax policy.
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative research and insights.
  • A thorough knowledge of major aspects of the U.S. tax system.
  • Comfort with the legislative and regulatory process in tax and working knowledge of Congress and the executive branch
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, including the ability to communicate on multiple levels of various audiences.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously, including production of timely materials for external audiences.
  • Professional presence and confidence.
  • Collegial and team-oriented in approach.
  • Flexibility and adaptability required.
  • Strong Microsoft office skills - specifically Word, Powerpoint, Excel

What we offer
We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $121,700 to $223,200. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $146,100 to $253,600. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances. You’ll also be granted time off for designated EY Paid Holidays, Winter/Summer breaks, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
