The opportunity

Technically strong, professional accountant sought for internal finance role providing technical accounting advice to internal stakeholders and preparation of consolidated IFRS statutory financial statements.


The Global External Reporting Team in London is a core part of the Global Accounting Team that supports the EY network across the globe. The team is responsible for preparing statutory accounts, including consolidations, for various Global EY entities. The team also provides technical accounting advice to global finance leadership in support of decisions impacting the EY network. The team’s position within the global finance function gives team members exposure to senior management in the UK and globally and results in a varied and wide-ranging workload. The role involes collaborative working with colleagues in other functions such as tax and legal to provide wholistic advice to senior leadership. The team is motivated, friendly and supportive and well-regarded within finance.


Whilst this is not a client facing team, being part of EY will give the successful candidate the opportunity to develop in an industry role with the support of a vast network of experienced finance and other professionals not readily available outside of the professional accounting firm industry.


An opportunity has arisen for a Financial Reporting Manager to join the team to:

  • focus on statutory financial reporting for various EY Global entities
  • get involved with technical accounting issues, including providing advice and recommendations to senior leadership
  • liaising with external auditors.
  • Identify opportunities for the use of technology to implement change across our statutory reporting function

The role is ideally suited to someone wishing to make their first move out of an audit background into a more specialist financial reporting role. There may also be some limited travel required.


Your key responsibilities

  • Preparation/review of single and multi-currency consolidations
  • Preparation/review of statutory financial statement disclosures
  • Identification and resolution of IFRS technical accounting issues
  • Interpretation of circumstances and IFRS standards together with application of judgement to determine recommendations
  • Preparation of technical memos including liaison with auditors to ensure agreement on accounting treatments
  • Preparation of reports for senior management including making recommendations of proposed treatment
  • Liaising with a broad spectrum of other team members including tax, legal, internal technical experts and other internal functions
  • Review current processes relating to statutory accounting and identify areas for improvement using technology. Assist with the implementation of identified solutions.
  • Assist with reviews of Member Firm reconciliations of management to statutory profit and equity
  • Ad hoc projects, analysis and reporting

Skills and attributes for success

  • Technically strong with excellent understanding of IFRS and UK company law (as it applies to financial reporting)
  • Experience of working with multi-currency consolidations
  • Analytical and logical mindset with attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with teams across countries, and with senior management
  • Proactive, and can operate independently
  • Good interpersonal skills with proven ability to build networks with a broad spectrum of other people
  • Commercial awareness and appreciation of the impact of accounting decisions on other aspects of the business
  • Flexibility and ability to juggle several demands at once

Qualifications

  • ACA qualified accountant with 2 years PQE
