The opportunity
Perform Transition management & Service management role to support build out of practice.
Managers have primary project management responsibilities around effort estimates, financial projections, communications with external stakeholders, construction of continuous learning workflows / dataset analysis, and play a significant role in staff management and leadership, performance metrics, quality, deadlines, and tracking to financial performance and efficiencies. Manager's responsibilities are weighted towards towards process improvement. Managers typically serve as the client-facing lead or co-lead on their projects
Responsibilities
- Leads one large or two small-to-medium projects effectively, without intensive oversight
- Internal management of a project. Managers typically have significant project management responsibilities; including communication with (especially on logistical or administrative matters) clients and vendors as a matter of course.
- Displays significant ability to temporarily lead projects in the absence of seniors
- Responsible not just for project quality, but for thinking about project quality creatively (a Manager is expected to be alert to opportunities for process improvement, better quality control, smarter and more efficient audits, and so on), and meaningfully engaging with client escalation responses or other feedback to devise better review approaches.
- Ability to mange a project in all other respects including staff management and leadership, performance metrics, quality, deadlines, tracking, and assurance with supervision from their seniors who serve as the client lead.
- Point person for the project team to spot/address/escalate issues that aren’t substantive (e.g. a workflow problem or suggestion; team related issues)
- Expected to innovate and improve upon document review processes and techniques.
- Maximizes platform reporting/tracking ability.
- Administrative responsibilities, primarily centered on the employee appraisal process; internal reporting, compliance and process adherence.
- Provides accurate scoping of new projects
- Effectively communicate with counsel or the client with respect to instruction changes, suggestions for changes, and seeking/interpreting guidance.
- Strong subject matter expertise and ability to adapt and learn any type of subject matter.
- Ensure compliance with policies and processes.
- Mentors non-managerial junior colleagues.
Skills
- Strong project management skills, including firm grasp of processes, metrics, and productivity-implications of project workflow.
- Strong client and external party-facing skills: main point of contact with external representatives in connection with particular projects. Able to effectively gauge client needs even if not expressly stated.
- Highly responsive to the needs of both internal (including reporting managers, other project managers and team members) as well as external clients.
- Highly skilled in e-discovery platforms and relevant technology including on managing assignments, workflow (including the ability to suggest changes to workflow), understanding of platform abilities, limitations, metrics and reporting capabilities.
- Strong presentation and training skills; project-specific training (of junior colleagues) is a core responsibility. Effectively shares e-discovery/platform knowledge with colleagues.
- Highly skilled on multiple e-discovery platforms,
- Effortlessly manages deadlines without delivery delays.
- Demonstrates an ability to perform Sr. Managers' role in Sr. Manager's absence.
- Strong subject matter expertise, and ability to adapt and learn any type of subject matter.

- Feels "ownership" of overall project quality, especially with regard to training and solving queries for juniors on the team. Fully engaged with documents and data-set (i.e. as opposed to focusing primarily on administrative tasks).
- Displays good judgment in escalating issues as appropriate in the chain. Regularly displays initiative and solution-orientation.
- Begins to form relationships with clients.
Relationships: Internal/External
- Strong relationships with external key stakeholders such as, Platform vendors, Client representatives
- Customer relationship is critical, as the Manager is usually the client's main point of contact as far as the day-to-day running of a project is concerned.
- Important relationships include those with Sr. Managers, PPEDs; Managers are often crucial in as far as timely escalation of issues to senior management
