As an experienced Senior Manager in our Energy Lead Advisory team, you will work closely with energy project developers, investors, financiers, innovators and key public sector stakeholders across Australia to harness capital and deliver impactful M&A solutions that drive the transition to a sustainable, green future.
You will play a pivotal role in:
- Performing origination work including client relationship development
- Identifying key value drivers and risk mitigation strategies, challenging assumptions about prices, asset performance and portfolio construction
- Leading the execution of transactions through the lifecycle including financial modelling, diligence, financing and transaction negotiation
- Providing seamless integrated experiences for our clients throughout the growth and optimisation M&A journey alongside other EY service lines.
Our focus spans various segments of the energy sector including renewable energy generation, storage, transmission build out and optimisation strategies for infrastructure investors, developers and utilities across the mid-market and majors.
To be considered for this role, candidates must be based in Melbourne or Sydney.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement innovative strategies for energy sector M&A transactions that align with client objectives while responding to evolving market conditions.
- Manage engagement teams to undertake the acquisition or disposal of energy projects, portfolios or businesses working with integrated developers, infrastructure and private equity investors, financiers and strategic corporate buyers on the sellside or the buyside.
- Collaboratively co-ordinate and lead execution aspects of energy M&A transactions encompassing origination ideas and proposals, crafting bid strategy and documentation, managing due diligence processes, performing valuation assessments, undertaking capital structuring and managing transactions through negotiation to completion.
- Provide expert advice on regulatory compliance issues specific to the energy sector underpinned by a comprehensive understanding of the intersection of the public and private sector organisations undertaking projects and programs in the energy transition
- Oversee the preparation detailed investment materials, supporting financial analyses and models that assist clients in their decision-making processes.
- Identify critical issues impacting purchase price negotiations and deal structuring efforts including a fundamental understanding of risk and value with a demonstrable ability assisting clients to proactive manage risk.
- Project manage teams effectively while overseeing information flows among key stakeholders.
- Contribute to business plan initiatives (e.g., key accounts development) by building strong client relationships while demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of their operations.
- Understand our firm’s capabilities thoroughly; seek opportunities to offer additional services tailored to client needs including leveraging deep relationships across our global renewables platform to deliver exceptional insights and transaction expertise for our clients.

- Proven experience in a transaction role within an advisory environment; adept at working independently as well as collaboratively with senior stakeholders across multiple engagements.
- Demonstrated expertise in M&A, project and corporate finance structuring, a deep knowledge of the energy market fundamentals, relevant technologies, supply chains, public policy implications and general project development challenges and opportunities.
- A strong desire to make a difference in decarbonising our economy with evident passion for the energy sector
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, economics, engineering and/or law is preferred.
- Strong work ethic coupled with adaptability towards new challenges within a collaborative team setting: resilient and creative thinking is key to overcoming hurdles to get deals over the finishing line
- Proficiency in assignment delivery—including requirements gathering—and presentation of results reflecting high-quality standards.
- Competence in risk management practices ensuring quality assurance throughout project execution.
