Position: Instructional Designer – Supervising Associate

Education: Any Graduate

Experience: 6 – 8 years of relevant experience

The opportunity

This position is responsible for the design of individual learning items and blended learning programs, primarily aligned to a specific service line, All EY, or function portfolio. The Supervising Associate will lead the design and development efforts, ensuring adherence to EY’s evidence-based learning design processes. This role requires collaboration with other designers and learning professionals to enhance design quality, efficiency, and innovation. Additionally, the designer will develop and maintain strong relationships with content owners, Subject Matter Reviewers (SMRs), learning and performance consultants, developers, deployment teams, and vendors.

Your key responsibilities

  • Lead the definition and design of individual learning items and programs, ensuring timely delivery within budget and quality standards.
  • Conduct skill needs and task analyses to inform the design of effective learning solutions.
  • Write learning objectives and document learning solution that meet business and learner needs, gaining approvals from design leads and the business.
  • Write design specifications, ensuring alignment of objectives with assessments, practice, presentation, overviews, integration, and motivation elements.
  • Review learning design against EY Learning Design Quality checklist and US CPE (NASBA) checklist.
  • Draft all deliverables based on design specifications, including assessments and practice questions aligned with learning objectives.
  • Create innovative eLearning pages, storyboards, audio/video scripts, facilitator and participant guides, job aids, and other instructional materials.
  • Write engaging assessments, practice exercises, simulations, and opportunities for reflection and self-explanation.
  • Manage technical review sessions with SMRs and ensure deliverables align with design and quality standards.
  • Proficiently create and customize engaging eLearning content using rapid authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline and Rise.
  • Master communication strategies to lead design discussions, resolve complex issues, and manage interactions with SMRs and project teams.
  • Lead design teams, fostering a collaborative environment, mentoring junior instructional designers, and managing team dynamics.
  • Coach instructional designers of third-party providers to follow the EY design process and promote the use of EY design standards, templates, and tools.

  • Strong knowledge of learning science and evidence-based design standards to ensure high-quality learning content with desired business impact.
  • Strong ability to lead design discussions, fostering a collaborative environment while mentoring junior instructional designers and promoting knowledge sharing.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with content owners, SMRs, deployment teams, and other members of the learning team, while managing team dynamics and resolving conflicts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to negotiate project details, and write effective instructional text and facilitator materials.
  • Ability to act independently to complete all aspects of design activities and review the work of internal or external developers for adherence to design standards.
  • Ability to anticipate and lead adaptations to learning trends, technologies, and industry shifts, championing a culture of flexibility and continuous improvement within the portfolio team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a consulting mindset, capable of addressing complex issues and providing innovative solutions.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects in fast-paced, stressful environments, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality results

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • 6 to 8 years of experience in designing courses and other learning items, with a proven track record of leading projects and mentoring junior instructional designers.
  • Demonstrable experience in designing effective eLearning experiences, facilitator and participant guides, online and classroom simulations, and multimedia content.
  • Required experience in storyboarding courses and simulations using:
    • Articulate Rise & Storyline 360
    • MS Word, PowerPoint, and whiteboarding applications (ie Miro/Mural/MS Whiteboard)
  • Additional experience in storyboarding for
    • Videos
    • iPDFs/Flipbooks
  • Experience in writing assessments aligned to learning objectives
  • Experience in applying accessibility standards and offering direction to address gaps
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and adaptability to changing business needs and learning trends.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Professional qualification in instructional design or related discipline is preferred
  • Active membership in related professional bodies or industry groups is preferred, not required
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology or related field is preferred, not required
