EY UK&I’s Energy Transition team services clients across the energy industry, specifically utilities and organizations across the electricity value chain. We are contracted by our clients to deliver digitization, modernization, and decarbonization pieces of work, and serve as transformation solution partners to a number of key energy organizations in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland. We also support power & utility clients in delivering BAU initiatives related to grid planning, operations, and markets. Our offerings span: market and technology design, engineering, technology implementation, data & analytics, strategy, policy, and customer engagement activities in spaces such as: generation, transmission & distribution, operations, markets, retail, and regulatory reporting.
Your key responsibilities
Our customer and strategy professional will have the opportunity to work alongside market leaders in Ireland and internationally to shape the services that utilities offer to customers, as well as how utility customers engage with their electricity usage. The role involves working with clients to shape, design and deliver customer-centric solutions that enable the energy transition, enhance performance, and ensure regulatory and customer value alignment.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to synthesise complex information into clear, actionable insights.

- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships, collaborate effectively across teams, and deliver excellent client service.
- Proven project management and stakeholder engagement skills, able to balance multiple priorities and deliver in dynamic, fast-moving environments.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and influence decision-making at senior and executive levels.
- Deep customer centricity, with a passion for ensuring that the customer is at the centre of key product and service design decisions.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development, maintaining curiosity about emerging technologies, energy system reform, and new customer engagement models.
- Understanding of customer insight disciplines, including psychology, behavioural science, and behavioural economics, and how these inform design and go-to-market success.
Skills and attributes for success:
- 10+ years of professional experience, including at least 5 years in management consulting, strategy, or transformation roles within the energy, utilities, or regulated infrastructure sectors.
- Proven record in designing and delivering customer strategies — such as segmentation, journey mapping, proposition development, digital engagement, or service model transformation.
- Experience leading customer research and insight initiatives, translating behavioural or market data into tangible commercial or operational improvements.
- Delivery experience in regulated energy environments, ideally with exposure to DSO or TSO operations, flexibility services, smart grid or customer energy transition programmes.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing capability, demonstrated through engagement with regulatory bodies, C-suite executives, or cross-functional programme leadership.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage budgets and timelines, and ensure delivery excellence across concurrent projects.
- Familiarity with key industry challenges, including decarbonisation, electrification, flexibility, customer enablement and energy data utilisation.
- Experience leveraging digital and analytical tools (e.g., CRM, data analytics, customer insights platforms) to support strategy design and decision-making.
- Experience contributing to thought leadership, business development, or client account growth in a consulting environment.
- Strong commitment to collaboration, inclusion and innovation, bringing energy and leadership to complex transformation programmes
