Role: Experienced Temporary Payroll Specialist/Administrator

The Team and the opportunity


We are recruiting an experienced Payroll Specialist/Administrator within the Central Finance function. Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor and working closely with various stakeholders, this lead role will primarily be responsible for processing end-to-end fortnightly payroll. Hybrid working of 2 days per week in office in place.

Payroll is managed in-house and requires a high level of manual processing. Since payroll files are Excel-based, strong proficiency in Excel is essential. As a Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of fortnightly payroll. Key duties include compiling and posting payroll journals, preparing month-end reconciliations, and providing expert support, training, and guidance on payroll processes. You will also assist with general BAU tasks, audits, and ad-hoc responsibilities as needed.

Your key responsibilities

  • Proficiency in all aspects of PAYE Revenue reporting, including RPN processes and payroll submissions.
  • Prepare necessary reconciliations and returns such as pension and CSO in line with deadlines.
  • Support the month-end process as required.
  • Ensure compliance with Revenue requirements and maintain robust internal controls and audit standards.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and ad-hoc returns as required.
  • Provide inputs relating to payroll for cash flow forecasting of payments.
  • Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including HR, Revenue, and external service providers, providing efficient and effective support where required.
  • Contribute to the preparation of internal and external audits, financial statements, and the budget process.
  • Mentor staff where required.
  • Collaborate on projects as part of a continuous improvement program, including leveraging technology and financial systems to streamline processes. Assist in developing finance system upgrades, enhancements, and process improvements.
  • Perform any other duties assigned to the role.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Minimum NFQ Level 7 qualification.
  • At least 5 years of recent, relevant Irish payroll processing experience.
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent MS Excel skills.
  • Experience in preparing payroll journals and monthly payroll reconciliations to strict deadlines.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build rapport, communicate effectively with finance and non-finance personnel, and maintain confidentiality.
  • A proactive, flexible approach with strong organizational skills.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Excellent team-working skills and adaptability when faced with new challenges.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage work within fixed deadlines.
