The opportunity
Climate change is driving an unprecedented transformation in the global energy sector. The energy industry is transitioning to a low carbon, decentralised future, facing a wide range of engineering and economic challenges along the way. The scale of infrastructure development needed to transform our energy sector is immense with transactions in the energy sector expected to continue to grow over the next decade. We invite you to join us on this journey as a member of a market leading team.
EY-ROAM is a leading provider of electricity market modelling services in Australia and New Zealand. Our role in the energy industry is to provide evidence-based insights, enabling our clients to make informed decisions amidst uncertainty and change, cutting through the complexity to provide actionable insights.
Our in‑house software can be used to model any electricity market or power system and has been deployed to model power systems and electricity markets in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, India, Mexico and Africa. Our clients span the energy value chain including renewable energy and storage developers, energy sector investors, transmission and distribution network service providers, retailers, regulators and governments.
We are looking for a Senior Consultant or Manager to join our growing team. You will be joining a high performing, market leading team that contributes to solving our client’s biggest challenges. You will be joining a team that values collaboration, is open to challenges and is growth minded, with mentoring relationships a key enabler for your career development. This is a hybrid position based in Perth.
Your key responsibilities
Due to demand for our services, we are seeking candidates who are passionate about expanding their knowledge and experience in the energy sector and using that knowledge in a fast-paced consulting environment.
As a member of the team, you will be involved in the execution and delivery of a broad range of exciting market modelling projects and will provide our clients evidence-based insights that enable informed decision making using established simulation models. You will also support the development of client relationships, becoming a trusted advisor to key stakeholders in the energy sector.
Some of our most recent projects include:
- Developing electricity network infrastructure plans to co-ordinate generation and network development,
- Assessing the impacts on the grid of major transmission network augmentations based on extensive electricity market models,
- Supporting the development, financing, acquisition, sale and valuation of grid-scale batteries, pumped hydro, solar farms, wind farms and thermal generation,
- Undertaking market due diligence and market modelling, including forecasting electricity and capacity prices, marginal loss factors, generation curtailment and frequency market outcomes,
- Informing the development of government and energy market policy.
Skills and attributes for success
Here’s our ‘wish list’ but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your strengths, what you want to learn, and how far you want to go. Comprehensive training on our modelling suite and tools will be provided.
- Tertiary education in a discipline such as engineering, mathematics, economics, physics, or computer science,
- A solid understanding of electricity market concepts, including regulatory frameworks, energy market operations, impact of constraints and frequency markets (familiarity with Australian markets is especially valuable),
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks and deadlines,
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey meaningful insights to clients and colleagues (both written and verbally),
- A growth mindset, which includes an openness to accepting new challenges and a collaborative working style,
- High numeracy levels and the ability, or a willingness to develop the ability, to manipulate, analyse and interpret large data sets efficiently,
- High computer literacy. Currently, we use the Microsoft Office 365 suite extensively, Excel intensively, Python, SQL and other data analysis and AI tools. We will provide time and training for those who wish to develop their capabilities in these areas.
