EY-ROAM is a leading provider of electricity market modelling services in Australia and New Zealand. Our role in the energy industry is to provide evidence-based insights, enabling our clients to make informed decisions amidst uncertainty and change.
We have developed software that can be used to model any electricity market or power system and has been used to model power systems and electricity markets in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, India, Mexico and Africa. Our clients span the energy value chain including renewable energy and storage developers, energy sector investors, transmission and distribution network service providers, retailers, regulators and governments. Our market models use a physics first approach where representation of the transmission network is key.
This is a hybrid position based in Warrang – Sydney or Meanjin – Brisbane.
Your key responsibilities
Due to growing demand for our services we are looking for candidates with 2-3 years of NEM market analysis experience to join our team in Sydney or Brisbane as a Senior Consultant.
You will lead the Markets Research within the NEM Reference Case team at EY-ROAM. The Reference Case team is responsible for developing our 20-year central market forecast that is used to supporting advisory and transaction engagements. The Markets Research Lead role will work with a team responsible for:
- Contributing to the selection or development of long-term assumption data on the drivers of the NEM including electricity demand, coal retirement dates, hydrogen production, data centre development, and examination of potential new entrant generator and storage Projects.
- Reviewing historical NEM market information to understand existing behaviours and trends across regional prices and generator behaviour.
- Creation of half-hourly data for renewable assets, domestic storage , Electric Vehicles, and underlying electricity demand.
In parallel with the Reference Case development and market-based research, you will also have the opportunity to target your learning and development towards key areas of interest.
Skills and attributes for success
We are seeking candidates that possess some or all of the following attributes:
- Relevant tertiary education in a discipline such as engineering, mathematics, economics, physics, or computer science,
- High numeracy levels with demonstrated experience in manipulating and analysing large data sets efficiently and with the ability to deal with ambiguities within data,
- High computer literacy. Currently, we use Excel, Microsoft VBA, Matlab, SQL and Python. We will provide time and training if you can demonstrate your willingness and ability to learn a new programming language,
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, and
- Strong communication skills with the ability to successfully convey meaningful insights to clients and colleagues.
- The ability to employ best practice in data visualisation for both analysis and presentation
