Oceania AI Labs Product Manager - EY Rank of Assistant Director

The opportunity

EY Oceania is scaling its AI Labs capability to accelerate AI enabled innovation, experimentation and growth securely and responsibly. The Oceania AI Labs provide governed environments for teams to explore frontier AI tools, build low risk prototypes, support structured learning and create client ready demonstrations across platforms including Copilot Studio, Azure, AWS and Google Cloud.

As the AI Labs Product Manager, you will own the business operating model for the Oceania AI Labs. This is a hands-on product and operations role for someone who is excited by emerging AI tools, experimentation and innovation, but equally strong in governance, controls, stakeholder management and operational discipline.

You will shape how teams and clients access the Labs, move from idea to experiment, identify reusable assets and progress high value opportunities into the Frontier AI Engine Room for further development. You will also help guide the direction of physical AI Lab experiences, beginning with the New Zealand pilot and informing future expansion into Australia.

This is not a deep engineering role. A dedicated Labs Engineer will support technical provisioning, sandbox structure, licensing configuration, access controls and technical guardrails. Your role is to ensure the Labs operate as a scalable, governed product and experience, with clear pathways, compelling training, strong adoption and the right controls around data, risk, and cost.

This role can be performed from any of our EY offices across Australia. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.

Your key responsibilities

  • Own and continuously improve the Oceania AI Labs operating model, including intake, triage, governance, reporting, stakeholder engagement, cost visibility and promotion pathways.
  • Oversee the use case lifecycle from idea through to onboarding, experimentation, demo, promotion, closure or retirement, ensuring appropriate Responsible AI, data, risk and compliance gates are applied.
  • Develop onboarding journeys, training materials, user guidance and playbooks that support a varied mix of users, from technical teams through to people accessing an AI sandbox environment for the first time and partner with Learning and Development and AI Enablement to deliver practical, hands-on training.
  • Identify promising prototypes, demos, or repeatable solutions that could become reusable assets, socialise these with relevant stakeholders and promote suitable opportunities to the Frontier AI Engine Room for further development.
  • Monitor Labs usage, licensing and consumption, working with technical and finance stakeholders to improve visibility, prevent duplication and reduce the risk of unmanaged spend.
  • Work closely with Frontier AI Labs Engineers, EY Fabric and Client Technology teams to translate business demand into appropriate provisioning, sandbox structures, access controls and environment guardrails.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Experience in product management, innovation, digital delivery, platform operations or technology enabled transformation.
  • Working knowledge of AI tools, experimentation environments or cloud-based platforms
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work confidently across business, technology, risk, data, learning, client facing and leadership teams.
  • Experience making complex technology accessible to different levels of expertise through clear communication, training, guidance or enablement materials.
  • A practical understanding of enterprise governance, data classification, privacy, security, risk and Responsible AI considerations.

Ideally, you’ll also have the skills and attributes below but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Commercial and operational discipline, including experience managing demand and costs in a technology enabled environment.
  • Strong communication, documentation and storytelling skills, with the ability to make emerging technology tangible for teams and clients.
  • Good judgement, bias for action and the ability to balance experimentation, speed, governance and escalation in a complex enterprise environment.
