Fund Controller
Position Summary
The Fund Controller is responsible for the overall financial governance, oversight, and representation of a portfolio of Real Estate / Private Equity funds serviced.
Acting as the primary finance lead and trusted advisor to the client, the Fund Controller provides fund-level accountability for financial reporting, investor deliverables, audit coordination, regulatory compliance, and operational performance. The role serves as the key interface between the client and EY's delivery teams, ensuring that all outputs produced through EY's Managed Services platform are accurate, complete, timely and fit for investor, auditor and regulatory use.
The Fund Controller operates within a global delivery model leveraging EY's technology-enabled platform, including fund accounting, treasury, consolidation, reporting and workflow solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fund Governance and Fund Representation
- Serve as the designated Fund Controller for a portfolio of client funds.
- Provide overall governance and financial oversight across all fund processes.
- Review, challenge and approve financial outputs prepared by EY delivery teams.
- Assess whether reporting outputs are fit for investor, auditor, lender and regulatory purposes.
- Act as the final approval authority for fund-level reporting deliverables.
- Escalate significant risks, accounting issues and operational matters to client leadership and EY management.
2. Client Relationship Management
- Act as the primary finance contact for assigned clients.
- Lead governance and operating committee meetings.
- Build trusted relationships with CFOs, Fund Directors, Portfolio Managers and Investors.
- Provide proactive insights regarding fund performance, risks and reporting matters.
- Support business development opportunities and contribute to account growth initiatives.
3. Oversight of Fund Accounting Operations
- Oversee end-to-end fund administration activities performed by EY delivery teams.
- Challenge accounting treatments and complex transactions.
- Review:
- NAV calculations
- Consolidations
- Capital calls and distributions
- Debt and financing activities
- Waterfall calculations
- Investment accounting
- Foreign currency translations
- Ensure compliance with agreed reporting calendars and service level agreements.
4. Financial Reporting & Investor Deliverables
- Review and approve:
- Financial statements
- Consolidated reporting packages
- Investor reporting
- Board reporting materials
- Fund performance analyses
- Ensure reporting remains audit-ready throughout the reporting cycle.
- Drive consistency of reporting across fund structures and jurisdictions.
5. Audit and Regulatory Oversight
- Coordinate statutory audits and investor audit processes.
- Act as the primary contact for external auditors.
- Challenge audit observations and oversee remediation actions.
6. Service Provider Coordination
- Oversee interactions with:
- Property Managers
- Administrators
- Depositaries
- Banks
- Auditors
- Tax Advisors
- Legal Advisors
- Monitor service quality and performance.
- Resolve operational issues and coordinate complex stakeholder interactions.
7. Oversight of EY Delivery Teams
- Lead multidisciplinary EY teams across Luxembourg and Global Delivery Services.
- Review quality of work produced by accounting, controlling and reporting teams.
- Define review standards and escalation thresholds.
- Drive continuous improvement, standardisation and automation initiatives.
- Promote efficient utilisation of EY technology platforms and managed service tools.
8. Risk Management & Control
- Identify operational, financial and reporting risks.
- Challenge unusual transactions and accounting judgments.
- Ensure robust documentation, governance and audit trail requirements are maintained.
- Review and monitor key controls across the end-to-end operating model.
Required Experience
Education
- Master's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business Administration.
- Professional qualification strongly preferred:
- ACCA
- CPA
- CA
- CFA
Experience
- 8–15 years of experience in:
- Fund Administration
- Private Equity
- Real Estate
- Infrastructure
- Alternative Investments
- Asset Management Servicing
- Strong experience managing audits, investor reporting and complex fund structures.
- Experience working within a global operating model and managing offshore delivery teams.
