This combined team, in collaboration with key partners, builds solutions to serve Marketing, Customer Engagement, Medical Affairs, Public Affairs & Access (“CMG”), and other patient- and customer-facing teams across CMG to shape and drive a seamless, consistent, meaningful, and compliant experience for patients and customers across our interactions. The team is specifically accountable for:

  • Defining omnichannel solutions, shaping engagement strategies, designing, operationalizing, and producing seamless, consistent & meaningful patient and customer experiences.

  • Accelerating, connecting, and enabling the development of digital solutions that enhance the patient and customer experience across CMG.

Job Summary

The Senior Business Product Manager, Medical Content & Workflow Automation drives the development, adoption, and continuous improvement of Medical Content Authoring & Assembly product(s), with a strong emphasis on workflow automation across the entire content supply chain. Partnering with the Business Product Owner, Executive Director - Content Suite Lead, and Technical Product Manager, this role will be responsible for defining product roadmaps, gathering user insights, and driving feature rollouts. Content capabilities are a key area of focus and investment for the organization, and the ideal candidate is an innovative leader that will drive advancement across AI/automation, modularization, and integration with omnichannel products to drive user experience, scalability, and efficiency. This role will have a dual focus on medical content, ensuring all content adheres to relevant medical, legal, and regulatory guidelines and best practices, while driving intelligent workflow automation solutions across the content supply chain..

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Business Product Owner and/or Executive Director - Content Suite Lead to support the creation of Medical Content Authoring, Assembly & Workflow Automation roadmaps, including experience, features, timelines, and dependencies, with a specific focus on medical content requirements and compliant workflows.

  • Partner with Technical Product Manager to drive the development and improvement of medical content authoring products or features, ensuring alignment with the overall Content suite vision and medical compliance standards.

  • Help evangelize the role of medical content product(s) in achieving enterprise objectives, communicating their value proposition and roadmap(s) to senior leaders and organization-wide stakeholders, including Medical Affairs and Legal teams.

  • Act as point of contact for business feedback, recommendations, & user requests for enhancements to medical content product(s) and associated workflows.

  • Collaborate with the Technical Product Manager to align business outcomes with technical feasibility for medical content solutions, ensuring the product delivers both business value and technical performance.

  • Oversee business process & user insights collection through User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure the successful implementation of new features and capabilities for medical content, specifically focusing on accuracy, compliance, and workflow efficiency.

  • Support the rollout of new features across new and existing users within the medical content authoring community, including training and adoption of new automated workflows.

  • Collaborate with Business Product Owner / Executive Director - Content Suite Lead to establish business standards & templates for medical content and ensure pull-through.

  • Drive definition of business requirements for medical product usage & system health, leveraging Genentech and industry standards, with particular attention to regulatory compliance for medical content and automated workflows.

  • Drive experimentation to enhance medical content product offerings and automate content workflows, in line with the overall business learning agenda and evolving medical communication needs.

  • Coordinate with medical stakeholders, IT, and cross-functional enterprise product team partners to align on the medical content product roadmap, fostering cohesive collaboration and unified efforts toward shared goals.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and IT partners to ensure successful product integration and execution for medical content, including content asset & metadata integration with data lakes, performance analytics, content management/review products, and channel & omnichannel capabilities, with a focus on end-to-end workflow automation.

  • Closely partner with Customer Experience professionals to ensure the medical product experience meets the expectations of its end-user product community (e.g., Medical Affairs, Clinical Development).

  • Drive the development and intelligent workflow automations across the content supply chain, leveraging AI-powered assistants and agents to enhance content creation effectiveness and improve overall efficiency and scalability.

  • Establish and refine business rules and standards for modular medical content creation, content assembly, and localization – enabling consistency, compliance, and effective utilization across channels, with an emphasis on automating these processes.

  • Comply with all laws, regulations, and policies that govern the conduct of Genentech activities.

Who You Are

Minimum Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology, mathematics operations, computer science, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, with at least 3 years in product management, technical product management, or equivalent experience, specifically focused in healthcare, life sciences, technology, insurance, or other regulated industries.

  • Demonstrated experience with sole ownership of tactics or product components, articulating business problems, identifying solutions, and driving execution from strategy through implementation, with a strong emphasis on work management and process optimization.

  • Proven ability to develop and execute product roadmaps, including feature planning, timelines, and dependencies, with a focus on workflow automation across the content supply chain.

  • Experience with User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and rolling out new features across different user bases, including training and adoption of new automated workflows.

  • Proven success in aligning stakeholders and collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., marketing, medical, legal, regulatory, IT) to deliver seamless product integration and execution.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience driving experimentation and optimization of content product offerings and automated content workflows.

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to evangelize product vision and value across all levels of an organization.

  • Proven ability to adapt and navigate ambiguous or evolving environments, especially concerning emerging AI trends and technologies within the content space.

  • Strong knowledge and experience of work management tools (e.g., Atlassian Jira/Confluence, Trello, Smartsheets), and experience leading process optimization initiatives through the integration of technology and automation to enhance workflow efficiency and scalability.

  • Demonstrated experience driving the development and intelligent workflow automations leveraging AI-powered assistants and agents to enhance content creation effectiveness and improve overall efficiency and scalability.

  • Experience establishing and refining business rules and standards for modular content creation, content assembly, and localization, with an emphasis on automating these processes.

  • Experience with process automation tools and methodologies (e.g., Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Business Process Management (BPM)).

Additional Desired Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • Advanced degree, or equivalent experience (e.g., MBA or related graduate-level qualification).

  • Experience in a biopharmaceutical company or highly regulated industry with a specific focus on medical content.

  • Ability to innovate and foster experimentation to improve product capabilities, particularly with GenAI and agentic solutions.

  • Certification in process improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean).

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is 144,760 - 206,800 - 268,840. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
