The Position

The Opportunity

The Strategic Planning & Assurance (“SP&A”) Lead reports to the Contract Strategy Implementation (“CSI”) Leader and manages a team responsible for driving operational excellence in contracting risk management, and CSI workforce planning and learning, business process improvements, and technological advancements. The SP&A Leader ensures compliance with financial and business obligations within legal and regulatory requirements. They oversee critical audit responsibilities for contract operations and support contract management for commercial access customers, including risk management and strategic workforce planning. They are expected to be a visionary leader, bringing thought leadership to the domain of contracting risk management; contracting workforce planning; design thinking and continuous business process improvement; business analysis and measurement; and systems, technology and AI embedded processes. As a member of the CSI LT, they helped guide, influence, and shape the CSI department and are a thought partner to the CSI Leadership Team.

Strategy and Approach

  • Collaborates with Contract Strategy Implementation leaders to develop revenue protection tools, processes. and analytics

  • Leads a team to maintain and enhance current systems, ensure regulatory compliance, and identify innovations for future needs

  • Drives strategic workforce planning for efficiency and optimal SP&A team performance

  • Drives operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives within contract strategy implementation process

  • Builds relationships with CSI LT, IT, Finance, Legal, Healthcare Compliance, Genentech field teams, and other departments responsible for patient and customer access.

Resource Planning, Risk Management, Business Processes, Systems Management, and Operational Excellence

  • Develops and implements strategic workforce planning and learning for Contract Strategy Implementation team

  • Develops key systems and processes for compliant and effective contract strategy implementation, and produces roadmaps that enables staying abreast of industry trends

  • Implements proactive risk management strategies and oversees risk monitoring and auditing

  • Enables core contracting capabilities, operational excellence, and technological advances for contract implementation

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Educates leaders on applicable laws, regulations, and standards and influences their decision-making where these laws, regulations, and standards apply

  • Drives cross-functional operations for contract strategy implementation compliance and audit

  • Oversees internal risk monitoring and external audits and addresses external changes impacting commercial contract strategies

Leadership and Coaching

  • Applies analytical skills to inform assumptions, decisions, and achieve financial targets within budget

  • Proactively identifies and leads initiatives for new access, contracting, and collaboration opportunities

  • Demonstrates superior influencing and mobilization skills with senior leaders, peers, stakeholders, and customers

  • Develops and maintains departmental infrastructure, including succession planning and resource prioritization

  • Coaches team members to be high-performing and develops them to achieve business goals and professional growth and potential

  • Is forward looking and visionary, senses business changes and industry outlook, and proactively makes recommendations for improvements needed in contracting risk management, business processes, and systems and technology.

Who You Are:

  • You hold a Bachelor's Degree in business, managed health care, legal disciplines, related field

  • You have 8+ years of cross-functional experience in market access, account management, contract negotiations, strategic operations, or related fields within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry

  • You have 4+ years of people management experience and 3+ years of specific experience effectively leading cross-functional strategy development and/or operations teams

  • You have strong strategic orientation, expert grasp of industry issues and trends, understanding of customer segments, Genentech's business model and access needs, and knowledge of government guidelines and regulatory policies affecting contracting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or other related Graduate-level degree (e.g., JD or PhD)

  • Experience in other key functions/groups such as customer-facing roles, 340B, revenue management, business analytics, information technology, etc.

  • Prior experience working with external customers to create value and tell compelling stories

This position is South San Francisco based.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $183,000/yr to $339,800/yr. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
