The Clinical Demand & Supply Planning team ensures reliable, consistent, and cost-effective drug supply for clinical trials around the world for the global Roche/Genentech portfolio of >500 studies across Phase I–IV studies spanning multiple therapeutic areas and R&D partners (gRED, pRED, PD, PDMA, USMA) covering various drug modalities and devices

The Plan team’s scope includes clinical manufacturing network planning, clinical asset and study planning, comparator and collaboration drug management, plan systems & business processes with strong collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders, especially with Technical Development, Clinical Operations, Quality, Regulatory, Finance, Procurement, Vendors, and the wider Clinical Supply (PTDS) network.

The Opportunity

The Strategy Lead for Comparator Management is a member of the Clinical Supply Planning leadership team and accountable for the overall PTDS comparator strategy, contributing to an annual spend of up to CHF 200+ Mio/year. The Strategy Lead defines workforce strategies, global supplier landscape & relationship management, best practices, processes, and stakeholder collaboration models to support the Roche portfolio.

They deliver on global clinical supply chain planning strategy by living our leadership values and prioritising the growth of the team through defining the vision, architecting teams, systems and work-packages; and catalysing change through removing roadblocks. The Strategy Lead is also a global people leader responsible for coaching a team of Clinical Supply Chain Leads and Comparator Specialists.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Lead Roche's comparator supplier portfolio, managing joint steering committees, large-scale improvement projects, supplier selection/innovation, and complex contract negotiations with other manufacturers.

  • Partner with the clinical supply planning team to drive best practices, standardization, and optimization of PTDS planning processes, focusing on supply chain and inventory optimization for high-budget Roche studies.

  • Effective customer management, collaborating closely with Procurement, Finance, Clinical Operations Leadership, and Industry Clinical Collaborations. Serve as a key liaison to selected senior-level stakeholders across Research & Early Development, Pharma Development, Regulatory, and Medical Affairs.

  • Lead and represent PTDS in strategic cross-functional initiatives impacting the overall clinical supply network.

  • Mentor, coach, and develop PTDS Planning team members, including clinical supply chain leads and comparator specialists, with a focus on career and capability development.

  • Build a team of experts with exceptional comparator knowledge to act as internal consultants and advisors for global clinical study designs, comparator management processes, and supply challenges.

  • Act as a primary point of escalation, coach, and consultant for comparator sourcing shortages or high-risk challenges to support effective issue resolution and stakeholder communication.

  • Own the Comparator Management capabilities within the organization, accountable for enabling continuous improvement and/or expansion of existing capabilities.

Who you are

  • Degree (BA, MS, MBA) in technical, business, or supply chain field. APICS/SCOR certification or equivalent experience. OpEx/Six Sigma/Lean training preferred.

  • 10+ years in Supply Chain/Planning and/or manufacturing, including senior leadership. Significant clinical supply chain or operations experience strongly preferred.

  • Solid understanding of comparator market, sourcing, clinical trial design, drug development, forecasting, and supply planning. Advanced knowledge of clinical supply chain processes, best practices, tools, and systems.

  • Strong knowledge of supply chain considerations (manufacturing, quality, analytics, regulatory, finance, clinical operations) for various development drug modalities

  • Proven people management and strategic leadership with demonstrated VACC competencies.

  • Strategic oversight of industry trends in comparator sourcing to drive innovation and continuous improvement

  • Skilled in vendor selection, negotiations, and strategic relationship management.

  • Adept at leading a flexible, empowered, and authentic global team.

  • Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills, including simplifying complexity and communicating effectively with senior leadership.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $140,400 to 260,800. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
