Site Services at Genentech is seeking a Principal EHS Manager to lead EHS operations at our Roche Innovation Center of Philadelphia (RICP). This role requires a strong practitioner with a proven track record in Biosafety and EHS management, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
This position is based in Philadelphia, PA with a majority of time spent on-site. This position reports to the Director, Site Environmental & EHS Operations and will act as the RICP Biosafety Officer (BSO).
The Opportunity
Responsibilities
Biosafety: You'll be the acting Biosafety Officer for the Roche Innovation Center of Philadelphia. You will support research, process development and GMP operations to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
Employee Education and Training: This position is central to the RICP safety program providing expertise and oversight of EHS training for all new hires, current employees and external partners.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: You will serve as a liaison for EHS and Biosafety-related matters, working closely with various departments to integrate safety controls and practices seamlessly into site operations. Train, coach and work with cross functional leaders and staff to identify emerging issues and prevent serious incidents.
Occupational Health: You will manage the occupational health clinic and oversee programs including Bloodborne Pathogens, Respiratory Protection, Medical Surveillance, and Animal Allergens.
Compliance and Investigations: The role involves supporting regulatory inspections and assisting in conducting investigations into a variety of EHS related incidents including OSHA recordables and workers compensation claims.
Program Development: You will benchmark with the Roche SHE network to help drive the continuous improvement of the site's overall biosafety and EHS program, implementing new strategies and technologies to enhance site safety and compliance.
Regulatory Preparedness: You will be the primary SME for all GMP and Non-GMP related investigations and CAPA’s. You will be expected to participate in regulatory inspections and speak to the overall program at a high level.
Who You Are
Requirements
8 - 10 years or more of experience in a public or private sector role developing, implementing, and managing Biosafety and EHS programs.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field, advanced degree strongly preferred.
Relevant Certifications (e.g. CSP, RBP, CIH) are strongly preferred, but not required.

Must have proven/demonstrated work experience in:
cGMP environments
Developing and implementing Health and Safety programs in a laboratory or pharmaceutical/biotechnology setting
Developing and implementing Biosafety and Chemical Hygiene Plans
Overseeing and managing an onsite occupational health program and Worker’s Compensation program
Developing and conducting staff training related to: Chemical Hygiene, Hazard Communications, Biosafety, Bloodborne Pathogens, PPE, General Safety, Hazardous Energy, and other Health and Safety Aspects
Outstanding time management and organization skills, with an ability to consistently execute multiple, and sometimes competing, activities and projects to high quality conclusions.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Technical working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations as well as CDC, NIH, BMBL and other consensus standards.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Pennsylvania is $120,400.00 - $223,600.00 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
