The Position
Workplace Design & Management (WDM) at Genentech plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of our work environments, promoting a culture of innovation and collaboration. Key responsibilities include serving as a strategic advisor and consultant to our core business units, synthesizing workplace strategy, advanced work practices, overseeing workplace projects and robust change management processes. The WDM will ensure the successful integration and adoption of new work paradigms and physical spaces, directly influencing Genentech's ability to achieve its strategic objectives.
In this influential position, the WDM will creatively address client needs, offering short and long-term strategies that balance efficiency with effectiveness. With a strong emphasis on client engagement, this role demands exceptional facilitation and negotiation skills, as well as genuine curiosity about our clients’ business outcomes. The WDM will directly engage with Genentech’s business leaders, propelling business outcomes and capitalizing on a network of places, spaces, technology, and behavioral practices to empower exceptional work at Genentech.
The Opportunity
Core Responsibilities
● Client Partnership & Relationship Management:
○ Act as a strategic advisor to senior leaders providing creative, budget-compliant
solutions.
○ Foster strong relationships by deeply understanding client business needs,
implications, and risks.
● Workplace Strategy Implementation:
○ Develop and implement comprehensive workplace strategies
○ Forecast long-range space requirements (1-3 years) and align client space
changes with long-term occupancy plans.
○ Develop and enforce space policies and guidelines consistent with Genentech’s
culture.
● Space Planning:
○ Execute Occupancy & Tactical Planning activities, including option development,
stack/block/neighborhood planning, adjacency mapping, and detailed move
planning.
○ Manage and report on Occupancy Data (e.g., quarterly audits, CAFM system
updates).
● Project Management:
○ Lead and direct vendor partners to achieve project goals, and influence
Genentech stakeholders to define scope and negotiate tradeoffs for budget and
schedule targets.
○ Lead and oversee project teams, presenting updates and funding requests to
upper management.
● Change Management:
○ Drive change initiatives by designing and implementing strategies, including risk
mitigation and communication.
○ Coach project teams and support senior leadership to facilitate change adoption
and evaluate user readiness.
● Stakeholder Experience: Ensure a welcoming experience for all stakeholders, develop concierge initiatives, and continually improve services by addressing team member feedback.
● Compliance: Partner with EHS and Corporate Security to ensure adherence to health and safety standards.
Who You Are
Qualifications
● Education: Bachelor's degree (or comparable experience) in Architecture, Design,
Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree (MBA, CFM, or PMP) is
preferred.
● Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in workplace strategy, corporate real estate, change management, facility planning or project management.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Pennsylvania is $115,500.00 - $214,500.00 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
