Join Genentech’s dynamic Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) team in South San Francisco, where your expertise will play a crucial role in safeguarding our cutting-edge operations and fostering a culture committed to proactive safety and continuous improvement. This pivotal position offers an exciting opportunity to lead EHS initiatives across high-risk pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, supporting the development of lifesaving therapies while ensuring compliance with industry standards. You will collaborate closely with multiple teams, guiding risk management, incident investigations, and safety training to maintain operational integrity and protect our people and the environment.

In this role, you will serve as a strategic leader, representing Genentech in external forums, driving complex safety programs, and partnering with business units to develop tailored solutions that enable production without compromising safety standards. Your influence will extend to conducting critical risk assessments, managing compliance, and fostering a safety-minded culture across diverse operational settings—from laboratory to pilot plant manufacturing. This is more than a job; it’s an opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a global biotech leader dedicated to innovation and patient care.

The Opportunity

You will serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and frontline teams alike, translating complex regulations into actionable strategies that support both immediate safety concerns and long-term organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and manage EHS risks within the business unit, recommending effective controls and mitigations aligned with the hierarchy of controls.

  • Lead process safety assessments to prevent loss of containment and ensure robust safety programs are in place for high-risk activities.

  • Represent the EHS function externally at industry forums, regulatory meetings, and other engagements, providing expert insights and fostering collaborative relationships.

  • Drive and lead strategic EHS initiatives that involve medium to high regulatory complexities, mentoring team members and promoting a culture of safety excellence.

  • Develop, communicate, and oversee metrics that monitor program effectiveness, safety performance, and operational risks, sharing insights with leadership.

  • Act as a primary point of contact for EHS-related customer engagement, understanding business processes, managing risks, and ensuring alignment with safety standards.

  • Support incident management efforts, including conducting investigations, preparing for audits, and facilitating corrective actions to continuously improve safety outcomes.

Who You Are

Requirements

  • Educational & Background: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related EHS degree field with 8-10 years of experience in a similar pharmaceutical manufacturing or process safety EHS role, or no degree with 12 years of experience in a similar pharmaceutical manufacturing or process safety EHS role.
