Job Description

OVERVIEW:

As a Senior Building Engineer, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of all HVACR (Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) equipment as assigned. Deep knowledge in one or more technical areas is required, with the expectation of optimizing efficiency, focused improvements, and knowledge transfer occurring for these specialized areas. For success in this role, you will need to apply a customer-first mindset when responding to work orders and be able to manage contractors and vendors during maintenance and repair activities of varying degrees of complexity. Display ability and desire to train and mentor other building engineers and be comfortable working independently with limited supervision and increased decision discretion.

This role is a 2nd Shift opportunity at our Global World Headquarters in Golden Valley. This role allows the candidate to work 4 - 10 hour shifts (Monday-Thursday from 12 pm - 10 pm) or 5 - 8 hour shifts (Monday-Friday from 2 pm - 10 pm).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead troubleshooting for HVAC and related equipment to maintain established comfort zones within the guidelines set forth by the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Lead or designee.
  • Proficient in performing essential maintenance and troubleshooting, including root cause analysis, on standard HVACR equipment, including but not limited to chillers, boilers, AHUs, reach-in/walk-in refrigeration, exhaust systems, and cooling towers.
  • Competent in basic plumbing tasks such as flush valves, drains, soldering, sinks, and mixing valves.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of fire alarm, fire suppression, and generator systems. Able to support challenging technical issues and provide input on solutions/improvements.
  • Leverage building automation systems to schedule, operate, troubleshoot, and run trend analysis on building systems. Able to interpret data to optimize building systems.
  • Train and mentor other team members to solve repetitive problems, gain additional technical competencies, and complete planned and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Successfully partner and oversee the daily work of contractors and vendors. Provide feedback on vendor performance to the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Lead to support vendor selection and contract activities.
  • Maintain, without flaw or exception, plant logs and files.
  • Fluent use of ticketing tool for planned and reactive work, comfortable providing input on ticket resolution challenges and improvement opportunities. Able to leverage reports for enhanced decision making and the development of preventive maintenance programs.
  • Manage small-scale projects from initiation to completion.
  • Maintain superior appearance and working condition of all equipment assigned to the facilities department.
  • Respond to customer requests in a professional manner, including the ability to explain situations for basic understanding.
  • Willingness to learn and actively share knowledge to develop others, including cross-functional teams, vendors, and apprentices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of HVACR or Facilities Maintenance/Operation program from an accredited institution and 7+ years in a hands-on maintenance role
  • Universal CFC Certification
  • 2nd Class C Minnesota State Boiler License or similar
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Physical: Lift 50 + pounds; move 600-pound barrel with the aid of a barrel dolly; use full range of body movements (standing, squatting, sitting, walking, bending, etc.); climb stairs and ladders; manipulate small objects (thermostat calibration tools, small repair parts). Distinguish different colors (e.g., yellow alarm lights require a different response than red alarm lights, wire colors, etc)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Maintenance Electrician License
  • Experience working in a food manufacturing facility
  • Experience with brazing and soldering

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $63600.00 - $87600.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role.
