Job Description

Hybrid This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Global Technical Center in Pontiac, Michigan, three times per week, at minimum.

Our diverse team of engineers and machinists play a crucial role in transforming our facilities through implementing the adoption of ground-breaking technologies.

In the PPO GPS Designer role, you will be responsible for development of math design solutions to meet complex system and subsystem requirements. This activity is dependent upon a high degree of creativity and initiative in problem solving and working with multi-functional teams for issue resolution. You will perform as an expert in Design and Engineering Best Practices, and be highly skilled in GM CAD and Data Management System, Windows Suite, and VisMockup. You will exercise highly independent judgement and creative solution development with minimal direction from the Design Supervisor. Proficient in CAD Tools and owns the development of Standard Model Methods in their component / subsystem area.

You will be developing virtual powertrain integration solutions to support program test requirements, including vehicle, dynamometer, and component subsystem tests. You will work as a fully - qualified contributor who is dependent upon a high degree of knowledge and understanding of all aspects of virtual vehicle integration. You will have broad technical knowledge, training, and understanding, combined with creative and independent thinking and conceptual ability within the virtual vehicle integration through multiple cycles of the Global Vehicle Development Process..

What You'll Do

  • Owner of Standard Modeling Methods or Virtual Integration Methods for their Program and System Management Team (SMT) area

  • Proficient in Design Standards, Best Practices and Global Design infoBOOK Standards

  • Demonstrated application of design operations and processes (Standard modeling, Clearance Analysis, Vehicle Assembly Structure, Global Data Security, etc.)

  • Apply Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, and Integration knowledge to parts, subsystem designs and vehicle integration

  • Document and maintains material, mass, and other part specifications within the Math file

  • Complete, analyzes and applies NX Analysis results to solution set for their subsystem / components

  • Very knowledgeable of and experienced with Development Process and the math fidelity for each cycle

  • Independently integrate component subsystem designs into systems

  • Perform appropriate studies / alternatives / layouts, and participate in recommendations to program direction

  • Create math data (models), drawings, or virtual layouts of very advanced and complex components, systems and subsystems

  • Release system/subsystem to meet GVDP requirements with quality and on time

  • Create Bill of Material for all Powercube builds and determine spare parts needed

  • Interact with material analysts when submitting BOM’s and addressing part issues

  • Accessing GPDS and/or APM databases for product and part information

  • Familiarity with Vehicle Assembly Structure (VAS)

    Your Skills & Abilities

    • Bachelor’s degree in Product Design / Engineering Technology or equivalent experience

    • Experience (5+ years) or demonstrated proficiency with successful product design results

    • Proficiency in CAD (NX, Teamcenter, Vis Mockup, etc...), math release process, specifications, and data management

    • High Level experience in Product Design development, concepts, manufacturing, and tooling processes (e.g., injection molding, metal stamping, etc.)

    • Working knowledge of Vehicle Development Process

    • Working knowledge of Vehicle Assembly Structure (VAS)

    • High level of Interpersonal skills to work effectively cross functionally and with global partners
