The Role
In our quest to zero, zero, zero here at GM we are looking for someone to join our high performing execution team as a Vision Automation Engineer. In this role you will be working in a fast pace high tech environment, responsible for project management and all deliverables for the Industrial Vision Cameras. Depending on the role you will be engaged on vision designs, Matrox Error Proofing Cameras, Industrial Vision Error Proofing Execution, and Future Industrial Vision Error Proofing Technologies such as AI and Computational Neural Networks
Specifically, these roles will be for our Drive Unit, eMotor, Battery, Transmission, Engine, and/or Castings programs.
What You Will Do (Responsibilities)
- Lead and Review manufacturing system requirements and design robust vision hardware and software applications
- Lead Execution of General Motors GPS Vision standards for manufacturing equipment.
- Interface with other ME departments and regional automation execution teams to gather feedback and document manufacturing requirements with vision applications.
- Interface with Process, Controls teams, equipment suppliers and manufacturing integration suppliers.
- Ensure software / hardware application designs comply with GM Standards.
- Supervise detailed designs by contractors when necessary.
- Supervise vision automation contractor resources when necessary
- Specify software / equipment selection guidance, functional requirements, and integration methods. Example: Vision Products such as Lighting, Focus Length, or Matrox Cameras
- Forecast, track, and manage vision per projects
- Provide on-site and remote technical support for: plant software issues, new equipment startup, troubleshooting, reprogramming, diagnostic equipment usage, and interfacing with skilled trades personnel.
- Provide plant technical support with the development, planning and strategies for maintaining and replacing obsolete equipment.

Your Skills And Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of full time relevant experience
- Experience with Matrox/Cognex Cameras
- Experience with teaching / set up of Vision Hardware Set Up, Lighting Techniques, Camera Hardware Selection
- Experience with the design, build and start-up of manufacturing systems.
- Experience with design, set up, and debug of automation systems.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects and assignments with a high level of autonomy
- Ability to Travel up to 30% within North America and globally
What Can Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- 7+ years of experience with Matrox/Cognex Cameras
- Managing Projects
- AIA (Automated Imaging Association) or A3 (Association for Advancing Automation) Certification
- Experience with the design and build of machine automation in manufacturing systems.
- Experience with Allen Bradley studio 5000, Siemens Ti Portal, Siemens Step 7 Programming software.
- Experience developing GM Manufacturing Automation and Controls Standards
- Experience with Industrial communication protocols and networking strategies
