We are currently looking for experienced and motivated candidates for the role of Staff Software Engineer – Co-Simulation Environment Execution as part of the Virtualization & SIL Integration team within SDV-Embedded Platforms group. The team’s mission is to provide integrated virtual environments based on Level 3 V-ECU or equivalent to enable software testing within a CI/CD framework in a cloud-based virtualization platform.
As the Staff Software Engineer, you will be responsible to work across organizational boundaries to develop simulation strategies, and capabilities to deploy co-simulation environments to the cloud and automate the execution of standardized testcases in support of component, sub-system and vehicle level development and validation tests.
What You’ll do:
- Act as subject matter expert in the Virtualization and Software-in-the-Loop Co-simulation space and work cross-functionally across organizational boundaries to execute the team’s mission.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to lead to define and documents requirements to develop various Co-Simulation capabilities in an Agile framework.
- Collaborate with the Program Management Team to refine the Roadmap and Program Backlog.
- Mentor engineers, providing technical training and establishing good communication and knowledge-sharing.
- Coordinate dependencies with virtual ECU development, tools and automation teams to ensure proper environment deployments.
- Support scrum team members to ensure SIL environments are designed with high-quality standards and delivered on-time.
- Develop new and innovative methods to automate the maintenance of existing co-simulation environments in the cloud.
- Lead the integration and deployment of Co-Simulation environment capabilities in the virtualization platform.
- Serve as a Co-Simulation environment execution subject matter expert for the larger organization.
- Provide updates and live demonstrations to various levels of leadership and external organizations.
- Support SIL agile teams as a System Architect to define co-simulation architecture, simulation BOM design, naming conventions and signal interface definitions.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
- 10+ years of experience in virtualization, co-simulation, software development, test automation or validation roles.
- In depth knowledge of embedded control system and test automation.
- In depth knowledge of co-simulation integration and execution.
- Expertise in automotive communication protocols (e.g. CAN, LIN, Ethernet and SPI).
- Expertise in various programming languages and modeling tools (C, C++, Python, Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow/Simscape)
- Expertise with various automotive development tools (Vector CANape/CANoe, dSSPACESystemDesk/VEOS/ControlDesk, ETAS INCA, GMSIM/AutoVal, Intrepid Vehicle Spy).
- Expertise in design, implementation, and maintenance of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline solutions.
- Hands-on development experience with CI/CD, e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions or similar.
- Demonstrated success in leading challenging projects with high levels of ambiguity to completion.
- Consistent demonstration of GM leadership behavioral competencies.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Familiarity with scalable simulation deployment methodologies leveraging containers (e.g. Docker, Singularity, Podman, Kubernetes, etc.)
- Familiarity with synchronous and asynchronous event driven simulation
- Familiarity with industry standards in co-simulation (e.g., Modelica, FMI, SSP, etc.)
- Familiarity with industry standards in software testing methodologies and tools (e.g., TDD/BDD, Python behave or Robot Framework, Gherkin, etc.)
- Familiarity with industry standards in measurement, calibration and diagnostics (e.g., ASAM MCD-1/MCD-3MC and OpenX simulation standards, etc.)
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)
- Master’s degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science
- Propulsion/Electrification Control Systems or Other similar experience related to the Physics of Dynamic Electromechanical Systems
- Familiarity with GM in-house Software Defined Vehicle electrical and software architecture.
- Expertise in AUTOSAR and GM software and cybersecurity standards
- Experience with GM in-house test automation tools and libraries
- Familiarity with automotive or related industry validation testing procedures
- Familiarity with software development build process and associated tools (e.g. Git, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Gerrit, Jenkins, Arifactory, etc.)
- Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methodologies, SysML or similar modeling standards, and associated modeling tools (e.g., Eclipse Papyrus, IBM Rational Rhapsody, CATIA NoMagic/Cameo, Mathworks System Composer, etc.)
- Familiarity with Simulation Data Management practices and tools (e.g., dSPACE Synect, Siemens Polarion, etc.)
