Job Description

***This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Oshawa Elevation Centre, three times per week at minimum.***

The GM Defense (GMD) Finance Planning & Analysis group’s primary responsibility is to support the GMDs leadership team to achieve financial commitments on current and future products, while continuing to investigate emerging opportunities to grow the business.

Controllership’s mission is to serve as a Strategic Business Partner, bringing timely and insightful decisions to all strategic and tactical matters as they related to SEC and Defence Production Act requirements, accounting, audit/SOX compliance and financial analyses. Leveraging financial systems, we strive to increase visibility, improve efficiency, shorten decision cycle times, and reinforce financial integrity and accountability.

In the Program Finance\Accounting Analyst role, we work on a variety of important projects, including but not limited to, monthly program status report outs to the GMD Leadership team, all time buy studies, support forecast/budget/LTP by providing monthly forecast/budget assumptions to the GMD FP&A analyst. This role will also perform operational accounting responsibilities including month end close and support the ERP deployment for the Canadian LTV Program, via UAT testing and refinement to existing desk procedures. Given the fast-paced nature of this space there will be frequent opportunities to support special projects/analysis and get exposure to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Canadian LTV program team in strategic decisions and consolidate monthly financials for monthly operating reviews with the GMD Leadership team

  • Engage with the Canadian LTV program team to understand key drivers behind the financials

  • Understand and apply macro-economic, competitive, market, and other non-financial factors to evaluate GM Defense’s performance

  • Support the ERP deployment for the Canadian LTV Program

  • Participation in the development of long-term strategies and corresponding financial plans

  • Understand and assess the threats & opportunities to GM Defense’s strategy

  • Support or lead special project as needed to support GM Defense

  • Develop a detailed understanding of GM’s processes and systems to identify control gaps and any opportunities to streamline processes and controls

  • Assist with internal and external financial reporting, including

    • analyzing consolidated results

    • drafting SEC documents and management review reports

    • supporting strong control environment to ensure accurate and timely results

    • adhering to strict timeline for deliverables

    • supporting internal\external audits and statutory reporting requirements

  • Assure accuracy, timeliness, and conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

  • Resolve complex accounting issues impacting strategic business initiatives and identify potential accounting risks

  • Support cross-functional Finance teams while developing relationships to increase future career opportunities

  • Financial modeling and valuation skills

  • SAP Experience

  • Comfortable presenting to GM Senior Management

  • Ability to story tell and distil complex scenarios to leadership

  • Familiarity on government contract requirements

  • Complex problem solving and analytical abilities

  • Ability to take a strategic, transformational point of view

  • Passion for innovation, automation, and technology

  • Understanding of (or interest in learning) data structure, data interfaces and systems landscape

  • Experience with (or interest in learning) HFM, SAP, Power BI, KNIME, Sharepoint, and/or Robotics Process Automation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field

  • Must be able to obtain a Controlled Goods Program Registration

  • Must be able to obtain applicable government security clearance

  • Must be able to comply with applicable Defence Production Act requirements

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) (preferred)

  • Public accounting firm experience (preferred)

  • Strong knowledge and familiarity with financial reporting/accounting concepts

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other office products

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to work with a high level of independent judgment and initiative, while being able to rapidly take on and assimilate work from existing team members when required

  • Ability to understand and apply accounting and financial reporting standards (GAAP)

  • Willing to take on additional responsibilities, attend training, and learn new technical skills

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills within Finance/Controllership and with operating partners
