Job Description

The Quality Engineer for regulatory testing is responsible for reviewing business and software requirements for clarity, conducting tests, logging defects, and reporting test metrics and status updates to project teams. This role requires extensive expertise in software test strategy, the creation of test process deliverables, test metric development, and industry-standard reporting. The engineer collaborates with architects, business analysts, developers, and project managers to ensure successful project delivery with the highest quality standards. The role may involve leading projects and working with managers, leads, and peers to clarify instructions and share information. The engineer develops test plans using standard templates, works with senior test leads to enhance test strategies and processes, and builds manual test cases and automated scripts.

They are responsible for logging, tracking, and verifying defect resolutions and reviewing test plans written by others, offering feedback and assistance as necessary. The engineer must manage multiple projects and lead all testing activities on assigned projects, holding themselves and others accountable to GM’s values and cultural behaviors. Additional responsibilities include producing test and project metrics, identifying blockers, innovating testing processes, analyzing business and system requirements, estimating test efforts, executing tests, tracking progress, managing defects, conducting defect triage, and becoming a subject matter expert in system and business processes.

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report onsite at the GM Global Technical Center - Estes Engineering Center at least three times per week minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for testing regulatory requirements to ensure that the system under test is designed and functioning per regulation. Perform testing on various vehicle programs where these regulations are present. Regulations include MVSS 101, 111, 118, 126, 135, 138, 208, and several other regional regulations. Work closely with the Regulatory Integration Engineer, and compliance summary owners to understand the given requirements, create test cases, and execute test plans and methods to certify the intended vehicles for saleable intent.
  • Perform bench and vehicle level testing at Milford and Warren sites.
  • Plan and execute test pertaining to given regulation to meet vehicle program timing.
  • Develop test methods and models to be able to test critical components within the system.
  • Automate test scripts and work with HIL setups to execute test procedures in a closed loop model environment.
  • Capture and analyze data to troubleshoot issues.
  • Work within Jira and PRTS to execute work tickets and create issue documentation.
  • Generate and approve test evaluation reports.
  • Schedule test properties.
  • Analyze and interpret requirements.
  • Build archives and flash program vehicle software components.
  • Work with test fixtures and tools to setup test environment.
  • Mentor new engineers
  • Travel as required between Warren MI and the Milford Proving Grounds (MI)

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 4-6 years of experience in Electrical/Infotainment Systems.
  • High level of oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of organizational skills - Able to manage multiple projects across multiple programs.
  • Able to work within a team of engineers and communicate issues and testing results effectively.
  • Ability to act as a single voice for bench/vehicle level testing for assigned regulations.
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of CAN based communication and tools
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Driving level 1 or 2 for MPG (preferred)
  • Masters’ Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington

  • Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is: $75,000 - $119,800. Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
