Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Oshawa Elevation Centre on a full-time basis

The Role:
Sustainable Workplaces is charging ahead with a new mission! At GM environmental, we are geared towards developing creative solutions to environmental challenges. You will develop an understanding of environmental compliance in large automotive manufacturing and non-manufacturing operations and drive sustainable initiatives, as you work closely with the facility Environmental Engineers implementing projects in water, waste and air programs. Join our environmental team to gain experience in support of maintaining compliance, implementing best-practices, work standardization, and training across a multitude of GM non-manufacturing sites including technical research and design, administration, parts distribution, and training facilities. The position is located primarily at the GM Canadian Technical Centre in Oshawa, with visits to Markham and Woodstock several times a month, and periodic travel to other GM sites across Canada.
On top of the work outlined above, you will work on sustainability and community development work at GM non-manufacturing sites as well.

Key Responsibilities:
Support environmental compliance related to operations at each of GM Canada’s non-manufacturing sites including storm water management, air emissions, spill prevention, and waste management/recycling programs
Support a variety of Facility and Environmental initiatives at non-manufacturing sites
Plan and lead employee engagement campaigns at GM Canada’s non-manufacturing sites (Earth Week, Waste Reduction Week, World Environment Day, etc)
Lead sustainability initiatives at GM Canada’s non-manufacturing sites related to GM’s 2025/6 Reduction Commitments
Required Qualifications:
Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree (3rd and 4th year students) in one of the following areas: Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainable Chemistry
Enrolled in a qualifying Ontario co‑operative education, or internship program
Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week in Canada, and 16-month term (4 consecutive semesters) starting May 2024
Have a valid Full Class G Ontario Driver’s License, or equivalent Canadian out-of-province license
Have the ability to travel to various GM Canadian facilities
Outstanding leadership, interpersonal, and relationship management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex subjects to a wider audience
High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, takes initiative/self-directed
What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
Past experience in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment
Knowledge and understanding of ISO 14001 standard and environmental legislation
Bilingual, with proficiency in French language
