Job Description

Hybrid This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Cole Engineering Center Tower, Warren MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]

The Role: As a Senior Buyer- Strategic Wiring Specialist you will be responsible for purchasing productive and non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling, and services. You will actively assist in developing commodity strategies, sourcing and negotiations, executing global/regional material budgets, and collaborating with suppliers and internal partners. This role involves a significant amount of initiative, analytical work, and judgment.

What You'll Do:

  • In charge of advanced projects on wire harness team

  • Drive strategy with a focus on automation and industrialization of wire harness suppliers and commodities.

  • Maintain benchmarking data, strategy presentations, global budget, and on-time metrics.

  • Adhere to corporate and unit purchasing and accounting practices and procedures.

  • Conduct sourcing and contracting activities, including:

    • Sourcing event bid strategy and management.

    • Bid analytics.

    • Coordination and alignment of RFQ package components, including Terms & Conditions, SOR, and technical documentation.

    • Leadership sourcing recommendation and alignment.

    • Management of sourcing documentation related to bid events in adherence to GM Audit Services.

    • Cooperation with legal to negotiate special contract terms.

    • Daily supplier interface activities on all commercial items.

    • Support commercial budget activities.

    • Support logistics supplier management initiatives, including “Strategic Supplier Engagement.”

    • Nurture relationships with strategic suppliers by acting as a focal point for commercial issue resolution.

    • Perform rate management activities, including spot buys, rate analysis, and supplier requests.

    • Participate in supplier KPI reviews

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Finance, or related field, or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in commodity purchasing, supply chain, engineering, manufacturing, product development, or program/product management

  • 3 + years with wiring

  • Strong negotiation skills

  • Ability to work independently and solve complex problems.

  • Effective interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects

  • Understanding of contracts

  • Global business experience

  • Willingness to travel 5-10%. Domestically + internationally

Preferred Qualifications and Competitive Edge:

  • Wiring buyer role at a major OEM, with 10+ years of overall automotive experience

  • 5+ years with an OEM or Tier-1 supplier preferably with experience in advanced manufacturing development projects

  • Developing contracts/agreements

  • Direct commodity, material purchasing, or supply chain experience

  • Cost analysis or manufacturing background.

  • Automotive industry knowledge.

  • Materials management expertise.

  • Ability to interpret market data and engineering documents.

  • Solid understanding of contract law in purchasing
