This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the GM Tech Center in Warren, MI on a full-time basis.
The Role:
Are you a highly creative designer who is interested in being part of one of the most exciting design studios in the world? Based in Warren, Michigan, where the fusion of Art, Design and Technology come together, General Motors' Creative Design Organization has an exciting opportunity for a Design Manager for Commissions and Personalizations.
In this role. you will be the face of Creative Design for our Commissions and Personalizations, helping clients translate their vision into a one-of-one piece of moving sculpture. You will lead a team of Creative Designers, inspiring them to create exciting proposals that are authentic to our brands.
You will lead the vision and shape of the branded strategy for our growing portfolio of Commissioned and Curated palettes and bespoke Personalization and Accessory Solutions. Your creative direction will define textures, colors, materials, and personalization elements that elevate the interior and exterior with a distinctive signature.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):
- Use creative judgment to make appropriate brand decisions and manage/guide - original, innovative, fresh 2D and 3D designs appropriate to program requirements by working as part of a team with Design Leadership, cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers
- Manage commission and accessory design and guides others to create texture, color, and soft -trim designs into cohesive well resolved palettes with brand appropriate solutions
- Revise, refine and track design proposals to GVDP timing.
- Prepare documentation, presentations and prototypes to program timing and communicating as required
- Understands brand, global market, competition and customer requirements
- Keeps abreast of trend, material and technology research. Recommends needs and developments as appropriate
- Proposes and maintains commissioned, curated, personalization and accessory strategy by brand
- Design single point of contact and critical participant in development of process and strategies relating to commission and curated
- Escalate and resolve issues as appropriate for program execution and or brand/strategy integrity
- Supports project budgets, timelines and resource plans
- Develop, mentor, and foster the growth of the team of designers
- Design single point of contact for Celestiq client in person sessions at Cadillac House (determine where to delegate appropriately if need be)
- Support design team in engagement with clients of Celestiq requesting Design Services and unique commission design solutions

Additional Job Description
Yours Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- 8+ years in Color, Material & Finsihes, Interior Design and/or Product Design
- Bachelors Degree in: Industrial Design, Product Design, Transportation Design, Interior Design, Architecture, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, or related field
- Sound understanding in tracking deliverables to a production timeline
- Outstanding ability to communicate new and exciting ideas
- Ability to lead, guide, mentor and grow direct reports
- Works globally and locally to influence others
- Proven creativity and design judgment portrayed in a supporting portfolio
- Highly proficient understanding of manufacturing processes and limitations relative to C&T
- Sound understanding of 3D form
- Thinks strategically and navigates effectively through complex situations
- Takes initiative, is proactive and composed under pressure
- Expert user Photoshop/Illustrator/PowerPoint/Word/Excel
PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS:
- Must demonstrate out of box creative thinking and sound design judgment
- Must demonstrate conceptual ideation drawings and process to resolution
- Must demonstrate inspiration, thoughts and application to final solutions
- Must demonstrate trend, theme and customer mood boards with thoughtful graphic composition and layout
- Must demonstrate color palettes and execution
- Must demonstrate Photoshop, Illustrator, and VRED or equivalent
- Must demonstrate sound understanding of 2D proposals to 3D concepts

Company vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, though which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
