Essential Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly qualified Subject Matter Expert I (SME-1) to provide technical leadership and engineering expertise in support of complex, high-technology systems and projects. This role requires a strong background in engineering design, fire protection systems, and project execution across multidisciplinary environments.
The SME-1 will lead integration efforts, support fabrication and construction activities, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards while contributing to mission-critical objectives.
- Lead and manage technical efforts related to the design, integration, fabrication, and construction of complex engineering systems;
- Provide subject matter expertise in fire protection systems, including fire alarm and fire suppression design and compliance (e.g., NFPA codes);
- Direct and coordinate daily engineering activities supporting ongoing projects and system modifications;
- Serve as technical lead on integration initiatives, including development and issuance of technical reports;
- Support fabrication and installation efforts across multiple concurrent projects;
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project engineering, facility engineering, and installation groups;
- Manage and track assignments, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, and mission objectives;
- Interface with senior leadership and external stakeholders, including government customers, to present technical information and project updates; and
- Contribute to scope development, project realignment efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Education and Licensure
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, business management or related field. (required)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- At least 7 years of directly applicable experience in specialized technical field and is acknowledged as an expert in the specific area; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
- Due to federal contract security requirements, this position requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Due to federal contract security requirements, candidates must be able to successfully pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance.

- Hybrid Role – Occasional travel to the site. Local candidates can work in the facility if desired.
- Per Diem available when traveling.
- Initial 1 year assignment with extension possible.
- 4/10 schedule
