Overview

The Construction Superintendent I supports daily field operations by assisting with the coordination of trade contractors and assigned field activities, while maintaining high safety standards and supporting quality control processes. This role operates under direct supervision and focuses on developing foundational field leadership skills. This role assists with daily planning, documentation, safety observations, and quality checks, and works closely with senior field leadership to support safe, organized, and compliant jobsite operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the coordination of assigned trade contractors and field activities to help maintain schedule compliance and orderly execution daily
  • Works in strict accordance with contract documents, drawings, specifications, and approved work plans for assigned scopes
  • Supports all site safety protocols and participates in safety orientations, observations, and field safety activities under the direction of senior field leadership
  • Stays informed of daily field activities and monitors work in progress to support compliance with approved work plans
  • Maintains accurate daily reports and field documentation using construction management software, and supports safety audits, observations, and documentation using safety and site operations software
  • Supports enforcement of safety and quality control policies and promptly escalates concerns to senior field supervision
  • Monitors work for compliance with plans, specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards
  • Attends and participates in project meetings as required to support communication and coordination
  • Assists in tracking craft productivity, labor hours, and production quantities, and reports variances to senior field leadership
  • Assists with workforce coordination, basic forecasting activities, field data collection, and quantification of basic labor, material, and equipment needs
  • Establishes and maintains credibility with Owners, trade contractors, unions, and field personnel through professional, respectful, and trustworthy conduct
  • Promotes sustainability practices, housekeeping standards, and environmental compliance on the jobsite

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management
  • 0-2 years of experience in a field leadership/supervisor level construction role; 3-5years construction experience
  • OSHA 10 certified with the ability to obtain an OSHA 30 certification within 3 months of hire Or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Strong technical and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, safety and site operations software, and construction management software
  • Knowledge of construction-documenting and drawing, with knowledge of all phases of construction
  • Knowledge in all divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, cost control, and forecasting
  • Strong labor relations with union and non-union engagement
  • Ability to create a “safety first” environment by showing a commitment to Zero Injury principles and sustainability practices
