Controllers performs critical analysis to ensure the internal and external financial and non-financial information of the firm is accurate. Additionally, Controllers serves an important role in safeguarding the assets of the firm through the independent scrutiny of financial and non-financial information. Controllers engages regularly with the firm’s regulators and auditors and through its strong culture of control and challenge helps to protect the firm from reputational and other risks.

Controllers ensure that the Firm meets all the financial control and reporting obligations of a global, regulated and public financial institution. Controllers also ensure that the Firm's activities are conducted in compliance with the regulations governing transactions in the financial markets.

YOUR IMPACT

We are looking for an individual to join our Client Assets function. Responsibilities and scope of role will include the governance, oversight and partnership across all revenue and other divisions such as, Legal, Compliance, Audit and Technology to ensure adherence to Japan FSA, Australia and equivalent regulations in other Asia jurisdictions. The role offers opportunities to enhance understanding of various business offerings.


OUR IMPACT

The Client Assets team is responsible for ensuring compliance with Japan, Australia Client Asset regulations and other equivalent regulations in Asia. They are responsible for the daily client money lock up calculation, custody asset segregation and analysis of client balances across a broad range of business areas, regulatory governance mechanisms and periodic reporting within the various regulated entities. The team also are responsible for partnering with business analysis and implementation teams, driving forward various programs and initiatives, providing operational oversight of Client Assets rule compliance, improving risk & control frameworks, meeting commercial initiatives, liaising with regulators and actively participating in both internal and external audits.

HOW YOU WILL FULFIL YOUR POTENTIAL

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage the investigation, reporting and root cause identification of day to day exceptions in processes.
  • This is an operational role, executing daily processes and controls in respect of client assets computations and reporting
  • Coordinate between impacted Operations and Engineering teams and Legal, Compliance and senior management on Client Assets issues.
  • Review operational processes to identify client assets touchpoints and evaluate controls in place to adhere to Asia Regulatory rules.
  • Participate in the implementation of new processes and controls in response to regulatory rule changes and new business.
  • Active involvement in Regulatory matters such as inspections, request for information, communications etc.
  • Engagement with external auditors and submission of deliverables and audit evidence, to demonstrate and support compliance with CASS requirements.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience with working knowledge of Asia regulations preferably in the banking industry
  • A self-starter who proactively liaises with other teams to close issues
  • Critically important to have good risk management skills in this respect and exercise sound judgment
  • Expertise in Japan and Australia Regulations would be advantageous (Japanese language proficiency is required)
  • Ability to dig into the detail of Operations and Engineering processes to fully understand issues
  • Strong communication skills and ability to clearly articulate issues and solutions across a broad range of stakeholders
  • Experience of supervisory responsibilities (i.e. reviewing issues and acting as the initial point of escalation, etc
  • Demonstration of organizational, prioritization and project management skills
  • Ability to manage various deliverables concurrently throughout the day, within deadlines
  • Experience of low-code development skills and tooling would also be highly advantageous (example: Alteryx, SQL etc.)
