GBM - Bengaluru - Extended Managing Director - Software Engineering
Software Engineering, Operations
Bengaluru, Karnataka, India
Role Overview
As a Managing Director and Technical Lead within Global Banking & Markets (GBM), you will be a pivotal leader in the firm’s digital evolution. You will spearhead the modernization and AI-enablement of critical business functions: Client Onboarding Life Cycle, Prime Client Reporting, and the Counterparty Agreement space.
This is a high-impact role requiring a "front-to-back" engineering mindset. You will be responsible for dismantling legacy technical debt and replacing it with a cloud-native, AI-first architecture on AWS. You will lead a global team of engineers across New York, Salt Lake City, London, and Bengaluru, fostering a culture of excellence, rapid delivery, and continuous innovation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Vision & Execution
- Target State Definition: Partner with senior business stakeholders to define the future-state vision for GBM onboarding, reporting, and counterparty management.
- Legacy Migration: Architect and execute the incremental migration of the legacy estate to a modern, cloud-native stack on AWS, ensuring zero-downtime transitions for mission-critical services.
- Process Reimagination: Challenge the status quo of existing business workflows. Leverage Agentic AI to move beyond simple automation toward autonomous reasoning systems that handle complex exceptions in onboarding and agreement negotiations.
2. Engineering Leadership & Productivity
- Global Team Management: Lead, coach, and mentor a diverse technical organization across NY, SLC, London, and Bengaluru.
- Developer Experience (DevEx): Invest heavily in team productivity by implementing firm-standard tools (e.g., GS "FastTrack" for cloud adoption) and modern AI-assisted SDLC practices.
- Operational Excellence: Drive a culture of "Engineering Excellence," emphasizing high-quality code, automated testing, and robust CI/CD pipelines.
3. Stakeholder & Risk Management
- Influence & Navigation: Work across a strong-willed stakeholder base, including Sales, Trading, Operations, and Legal.
- Prioritization: Distinguish "noise" from high-priority business needs, ensuring engineering resources are aligned with the firm’s most critical strategic goals.
- Regulatory & Risk Alignment: Ensure all AI and cloud solutions adhere to the firm’s rigorous technology risk, compliance, and data governance standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Expertise
- Core Engineering: Expert-level proficiency in Java and the JVM ecosystem.
- Cloud Native: Proven track record of building and deploying large-scale, resilient applications on AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, and EKS).
- AI & Data: Deep familiarity with AI SDLC, including the integration of LLMs (e.g., Anthropic Claude) and the development of Agentic AI workflows. Knowledge of modern data management practices (Data Mesh, Snowflake, or AWS Data Exchange).
- Financial Domain: Strong understanding of the Global Banking & Markets landscape, specifically client onboarding (KYC/AML), Prime Brokerage reporting, and legal/counterparty documentation.
Leadership & Soft Skills
- Change Management: Ability to lead large organizations through complex cultural and technical transformations.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to articulate technical strategy to non-technical senior executives.
- Mentorship: A dedicated "player-coach" who prioritizes the career development of their global engineering team.
The "One Goldman Sachs" Context (2026)
In line with the One Goldman Sachs 3.0 initiative, this role is not just about maintaining systems but about "propelling the firm with AI." You will be expected to deliver structural leverage—creating systems that don't just support humans but actively participate in the reasoning and execution of financial workflows.
