Minimum qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience working on policy issues for companies or within government, think tanks, public interest groups, or relevant industry associations.
  • Experience in leadership and people management.
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment and with cross-functional projects.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working on public policy for cloud-related technologies.
  • Experience working with functional groups across an organization and cultures as well as working independently.
  • Experience working closely with and advising product or engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with internet technologies; relating to Cloud and the surrounding policy environments, such as technical and regulatory issues.
  • Ability to identify and understand key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals, and understand and communicate business and policy implications to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the business implications of public policy.

About the job

Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) organization leads the company’s engagement with governments and relevant third-parties in the formation and execution of public policy that benefits innovation and tech progress. As a member of our organization, you will help educate policymakers and key opinion formers, advise internal teams on the political landscape, and work across Google to develop coherent, strategic plans to advocate for Google’s public policy priorities.

The GAPP Cloud team works directly with the Google Cloud and Google Public Sector product areas to advise on public policy issues. We are experts on Google’s vision for key products and work closely with product and business teams to minimize risk and increase opportunity for success and growth. Our team's mission is to help Google, governments, and civil society responsibly navigate the social, political, and economic issues of our time.

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you will be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, Cloud product areas, and functions. You will use creativity and intellectual accuracy manage various campaigns, projects, and initiatives. In this role, you will advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction.

You will help shape various product and issue agendas with policy makers inside and outside government. In addition, you will help advise our internal teams on the public policy implications of their products, working with a closely coordinated and cross-functional global team.

Responsibilities

  • Define, implement, and lead Google Cloud’s Europe policy and government relations objectives. Represent Google Cloud’s positions directly, in partnership with Google colleagues, industry associations, and other industry organizations.
  • Work collaboratively within a global team to develop public policy strategies and positions for Google Cloud with the primary goal of promoting Google Cloud adoption in key jurisdictions.
  • Provide strategic policy advice to senior Google Cloud leadership to inform our product and business strategy. Identify and pursue opportunities for Google Cloud to address government challenges and opportunities.
  • Identify, assess, and address with senior officials on regulatory challenges to Google Cloud’s business objectives in key regulated industries as well as the public sector market.
  • Empower and guide the team to accomplish their goals in an open, collaborative, inclusive, and effective manner.
