We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have a strong affinity with energy and sustainability topics, emphasizing areas such as industrial decarbonization, grid expansion and modernisation, congestion, flexibility, offshore wind, hydrogen, digitalisation, data and AI.

  • Bring skills and interests that complement Guidehouse’s broad strengths, for example related to agentic AI, data automation, business process optimization, or risk management.

  • Demonstrate a consulting mindset: Commercially oriented, agile, and able to rapidly understand sector dynamics.

  • Possess strong soft skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Are proactive, independent, and passionate about consulting.

What you will do:

We provide an internship opportunity that allows you to both focus on your thesis and work on ongoing projects. Depending on your internship set up, you will:

  • Write your thesis with support from our experts and contribute at least 8 hours/week to project work.

  • Contribute to diverse projects for international clients, from assessing environmental performance to supporting market development in new sectors.

  • Market and policy analysis, data-driven insights, interviews, workshops, synthesis of findings, models, dashboards and visualisations.

  • Uphold Guidehouse’s values of respect, integrity, innovation, stewardship, and excellence, supporting our culture of inclusion and diversity.

  • Build relationships with colleagues and participate in team and industry events.

What you will need:

Academic Qualifications and Interests:

  • Enrolled in a relevant Master’s program (e.g., business, engineering, economics, mathematics, physical sciences, etc.).

  • Strong curiosity and/or experience in topics such as sustainability, advanced energy technologies, data and AI, process optimisation, industrial decarbonization, bioeconomy, carbon markets, and related fields.

Additional Requirements:

  • Full professional proficiency in Dutch and English is required (both spoken and written).

  • No restrictions around performing work in the Netherlands and must be enrolled at a university.

  • Not subject to employment restrictions (e.g., non-compete) that would prevent you from performing the job.

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • A team player who collaborates effectively at all levels.

  • A critical thinker with attention to detail and creativity in problem-solving.

  • Able to balance multiple priorities and communicate clearly to stakeholders.

  • Comfortable communicating and open to coaching.

  • Experienced with Microsoft Office applications, and comfortable using artificial intelligence tools to improve efficiency and project delivery.

Possible thesis topics include (but are not limited to):

  • Industrial decarbonization & competitiveness.

  • Digitalisation, data and AI applications in energy-system planning or operations.

  • Supply chain risk management.

  • Innovative technology implementation (e.g. drone-based inspections or maintenance).

  • Offshore wind and system integration (e.g., offshore hydrogen production).

  • Renewable gases and infrastructure (e.g., hydrogen market design).

  • Integrated energy solutions (e.g., energy storage).

  • Power system flexibility (e.g., bid zone split impacts).

  • Other emerging topics linked to Dutch or European energy-transition or carbon-transition challenges.

Application Process:

The process consists of four steps:

  • Apply with your CV, including academic grades and languages, and a motivation letter of up to 400 words explaining: a) why Guidehouse, b) why energy and sustainability, c) What 2-5 relevant thesis topics you would like to explore, and d) what academic, thesis, project or extracurricular experience shows your ability to structure problems, analyse data and communicate insights clearly.

  • If selected, attend an (online) interview (early July 2026).

  • If successful, interview with a potential supervisor (mid July 2026).

  • Upon passing all rounds, receive an offer to join Guidehouse in August 2026 (starting date is negotiable).
