Scope

Houlihan Lokey is looking for a specialist to join the firm’s growing Corporate Development team for a temporary period. Over the past decade, the firm’s bull-bear balanced platform has worked as designed and the Company has grown over 12% per year since its IPO. As such, effectuating greater operational efficiencies and strategic acquisitions have also become an increasingly important part of Houlihan Lokey’s growth strategy.

This role will be an opportunity to learn and be a contributor in effectuating strategic and operational efficiencies and changes across the firm, in addition to executing on acquisitions globally. The team also oversees and manages real estate, and other operational strategic initiatives. The specialist will have an opportunity to be involved in certain aspects of acquisitions and operations and will assist in conducting various analyses and preparing presentations on corporate initiatives for the firm’s executives/senior management. In this role, you will play an essential role in helping us develop a more robust acquisition origination process by building out our database of acquisition targets.

Responsibilities

As a Corporate Development Specialist, you will:

  • leverage online data tools such as Pitchbook, CapIQ, and MergerMarket to build a list of potential acquisition targets, based on a set of internally-developed criteria.
  • use Microsoft Excel to filter the list and manipulate the data in many different ways,
  • Apply qualitative business judgment for each target on an in order to supplement each with additional background information that is of use, and then upload this information into HL’s CRM system.
  • Analyse and research background materials and reports,
  • Support on the generation of Sector Maps, or other representations or visualizations of various sectors within a particular industry, economy, or market,
  • Build, maintain and review company lists and service offering taxonomy within the CRM for mapping purposes,
  • Manage CRM design & data entry processes, for mapping purposes,
  • Support process and efficiency improvement initiatives.

Basic Qualifications/Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA / BS),
  • Proven ability to research, organize and present complex ideas
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Strong Excel & PowerPoint skills,
  • The ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team,
  • First-class literacy, numeracy and organizational skills,
  • A keen commercial sense, and a broad general knowledge and interest in current affairs.

Preferred Qualifications/Requirements

  • Experience in business development and/or market research, ideally in the context of assessing companies and markets from an investment perspective,
  • Experience of using CRM systems.
