Scope
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Practitioner to ensure Houlihan Lokey’s payroll process is executed flawlessly and will scale with the growth of our business. This is an amazing opportunity to be a key contributor to the payroll team. This role reports into the International Payroll Supervisor. The Payroll Practitioner will work closely with our Workday HRIS, Compensation, Human Resources Operations, Benefits, and International Payroll Vendor/Platform teams.
This is a hybrid working position which requires a minimum of 2-3 days working in our Frankfurt or Paris office.
Responsibilities
As the EMEA Payroll Practitioner, you will:
- Process monthly payrolls for Germany, Austria, and France
- Ensure accuracy of data in the Workday system for hew hires, job changes, salary changes and terminations
- Input and audit employee details, salary changes, bonuses, insurances, and deductions into applicable payroll systems, including gross to net calculations
- Process all non-cash benefits received from the accounting team such as overtime meals and late-night taxi income monthly
- Process all terminated employee prorated calculations and additional termination payments and holiday payouts
- Be the first point of contact for all Germany, Austria, and France payroll related queries and correspondence
- Respond to all employee queries submitted via the Company’s Service Now system daily
- Review and resolve any individual queries within Service Level Agreement timeframe, escalating as needed
- Process public and private Germany health insurance documents from employees, insuring accurate coding in Workday and payroll deductions
- Consult with payroll bureaus, payroll providers, and firm HR to ensure payrolls are processed in accordance with current payroll legislation and collective bargaining agreements
- Stay up to date on local regulations
- Confidently comprehend unique salary proration, time off accruals, and maternity calculations
- Collaborate with Workday IT and HRIS on configuration updates to support changes in regulation or CBAs
- Prepare monthly general ledgers and payroll account reconciliation for select countries
- Process all ‘leave types’ in accordance with legislation. E.g., holiday pay
- Collaborate and review unemployment certificate requests
- Ensure timely and accurate payment and filings of taxes and pension
- Act as the subject matter expert, SME, regarding Germany, Austria, and France payroll including migration to new payroll platform
- Comply with GDPR regulations and maintain payroll confidentiality
Basic Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
- Degree level education – subjects in Accounting, Finance or Business administration highly preferred
- Fluent communication skills in both German or French and English languages (verbal and written)
- 3+ years of advanced Germany or French payroll experience
- Experience with Workday, in-house payroll systems and local in-country partners
- Experience with DATEV Software
- Strong knowledge of tax and wage laws in Europe (e.g., benefits in kind)
- Strong knowledge of shadow payrolls
- Intermediate to high level Excel skills essential for data comparisons between Workday HRIS and local system data output
- Knowledge of Workday, Payslips, and Strada Global Payroll desired
- Proven planning and organizational skills
- Proven Analytical and critical thinking skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Workday, Payslips, and Strada Global Payroll systems
- Working knowledge of ServiceNow ticketing system
